Nope but my brother did buy a 2nd hand car and he only had it for a week, he'd not been able to afford one til then he was pretty p***ed off, the head gasket and something else went and he couldn't afford to fix it so he saved and bought a better car bless him!
Just like to say a big up to you as my Hubby is a mechanic too and I'm sick of everyone bashing and moaning about them and the cost of the work they have done, I wish my hubby did earn the £54 an hour the company he works for charges but it's no where near that, by a long shot !!!

Not quite that...But the times I have bought a used car, something has been wrong with it, or broken. Usually I change the brakes anyway, do a tune up, etc. I bought a 1989 honda prelude with a leaking water pump...Before I brought it to the mechanic (I do my own work, but didn't feel like tearing apart the engine to change the water pump and timing belt) I changed the brakes, hoses, etc. Brought it to the mechanic, and he screwed all of my work up. Lesson learned - don't bring it anywhere that you can't do yourself.

Yes indeed. I recently replaced a power steering pump on my car only to discover that the alternator frame had a big nasty crack around the aluminum housing. The alternator had to come out through the fenderwell. 98 Mercury Sable 24 valve motor.

Got the motor back into the car;linked it all up,but a leak from the sump spoiled it.Where was the special ring spanner to tighten the sump?IN THE BLOODY SUMP ITSELF.Engine out again, recover spanner, start again-and guess what?? we only mixed red crank caps with a green motor-giving us 0,010" clearance, and no f*****g oil pressure!!Engine out start again-this time we got the b*****d sorted. That`s what comes of having TOO many cooks spoiling the broth.Oh dear!!
