The resume for Mohammed Kaif makes a good reading as far as his captaincy goes chronologically backward...
1. Selected to captian India A against South Africa A this september
2. Was the successful captain of India A in twin tour to Zimbabwe and Kenya. Beat Srilanka A in Final scored a good 50+ at run a ball. Was second highest scorer in the tournament inspite of not batting one innings
3. Leads the zonal team
4. Lead UP to Ranji trophy success beating teams like Punjab, Mumbai and Bengal
5. Lead India Seniors after issue between Chappel and Ganguly , stalwarts like Sachin, Yuvi,Shewag etc played under him. Also the start of his bad time started then being shunted up and down the order was eventually dropped after an unsuccessful South Africa campaign where all batsmen failed in ODI's.
Excluded from World cup team
6. Cricinfo stats by S Rajesh show him as the most successful batsman from 2005-2006 in difficult tours. Ref: The real culprits April 4 2007 article in Cricinfo.

Kaif also was a part of the 2003 world cup finalist team. He made contributions in the game against Pakistan by having a century partnership record with Sachin, Top scored against Newzealand and had a world cup record 5 dissmisals as a fielder against Srilanka.
It is said that against pakistan in Pakistan the Trio of Suresh Raina, Mohammaed Kaif and Yuvraj singh fielded so well that Rahul Dravid needed no one to cover them in the deep, The results were there for all to see as after a test series loss we ended winning the ODI series against Pakistan.
The fielding shambles that the team is in now can be seen in England ODI series, the World Cup.
Catching may be most important in Test matches where bowlers bowl at half the pace of ODI's and 20 20 and is far different from the days sunil gavaskar etc and co played since that time there were mostly only test matches not like now where number of matches and side games are so many that the bowlers except spinners hardly exert themselves

Currently he does not have a place unless the middle order
starting from Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman and Ganguly fail
to deliver in Test matches. He has the potential and proven
captaincy material for test cricket. But he has failed miserably
in ODIs and had been given opportunity to prove himself.
When the top 4 batsmen retire or forced to retire or dropped
he has a good chance of leading India in test cricket. In ODI
it is a complete different story.

Let him first make his entry into the team India. He has performed badly as a player in the recently concluded India A tour to Kenya and other countries. He may be a good Captain stuff but he has declined as a batsman. He must concentrate on his batting and then sky is the limit. Let us hope for the best. Wish him good luck.

Dear friend to be a part of team India, either you should have an outstanding performance or have a good unseen hand with the selector. The performances above never considered. think of Dilip doshi, Hemant Kanitkar, Surider Amarnath, Ramnath Parkar many many more... so lets not to think of when Kaif will play AGAIN. Even if he do not perform with the bat, he reduces the opposition for atleast 40 to 50 runs; runs stopped are run gained. but who cares ?

He squandered the chances given to him.But i think he will definitely be back.He is still in reckoning with the selectors, that is why he was picked as captain of India A.He had only average success as a batsman.
Only when Sachin and Ganguly give way he will get a slot.He can be picked for his fielding and temperament.I feel it is time for Sachin and saurav to restrict themselves to tests.

considering the fact that india is doing very badly in the fielding division at the moment the chances for kaif to come into the team are pretty high since his fielding is good, but i dont knw if our uneducated "selectors" will consider him. as for being the captain, i think he is a contendor but doesnt have a realistic chance unless he makes a comeback.

He should leave and talk to Kapil paji to join his league. He will certainly have a better chance for playing. I would encourage all other younger players to do the same. Pawar is a mega a s s and his friends are money and power hungry.

Kapilpaji tusi great.

It will be good to see Kaif coming back into the team and bolster the Team's fielding efforts. But at the same time he should be consistent with his batting

Though he was given lot of opportunities to cement his place in the Indian team, he failed to perform to his potential and as such was dropped from the team. Even after dropping from the Indian team, he has not shown any exceptional performance to get back in the Indian team.

Since he has not been able to get back to Indian team, the chances of his leading the Indian team are very remote.

He first needs to get into the team, solidify his place in the team and then be given the responsibility. Him making it back into the team is itself a remote possibility and hence I do not believe that he will ever become captain.

friends.
in my point of view i don`t think that there are chances of mohmd.kaif to bacome the captain of indian team to the time till the bcci and sophisticated selection procedures took into place.this is only possible if kaif joins icl & icl has the full control of cricket in india
