TV is not the problem. The problem is that poor and middle class parents have less and less time to spend with their children because they have to work two jobs to make ends meet. Then at the end of the day, they have to come home and cook or clean and they're just exhausted! If poverty were eliminated, would there be as much gun violence? Why do teens turn to gangs? Why do people rob and steal? There may be a small percentage of criminals who rob and steal who actually enjoy it or are simply unethical, but I'm sure the majority are simply doing what they feel they need to do to get by in life. Necessity dictates what we do every day. I need money so I go to work. Problem solved. But most low income areas, jobs aren't as available and the parents aren't always around, so the kids turn to gangs and violence. I don't condone those actions, but if we want to reduce if not eliminate gun violence, we should eliminate poverty and let parents spend more time with their kids and actually let them be parents instead of having them slave their lives away with a 9-5 and a part time job just to eke out a living. Calling that a "living" is an insult. We all deserve and are promised life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!
The Second Amendment is outdated and needs updating. Our Forefathers could never have imagined automatic weapons in the hands of ordinary citizens. The Second Amendment was written at a time when our country was new and it's future uncertain. The Second Amendment guaranteed the right to bear arms so that the citizens of the US could rise up and defends themselves in case the US government became tyrannical. It was also written as a means for the citizens to defend themselves should our country be invaded. With the largest military budget in the World, I doubt we have to worry about the latter of the two taking place and any armed militia that would attempt to take on the US military would have to be insane extremists. There is NO need for the average citizen to have automatic weapons. Automatic weapons serve only one purpose, to KILL HUMAN BEINGS. No one goes hunting with an automatic weapon, and if you have to prove your manliness by killing a dangerous lil' deer prancing through the forest and nibbling on leaves, well then you just go ahead, Rambo. What we need is ZERO TOLERANCE gun control! People don't kill people, GUNS DO! Take guns off our streets, secure our borders so no more guns can get in and then they won't fall into the wrong hands. Then average citizens won't need guns to "protect themselves from the criminals who still have guns" as the pro-gun folks would have you believe. that's not even an argument worth debating because it's pure garbage. Our military and police should be the only ones with guns!! We've TRIED it their way for years now and it's NOT working. If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem. Let's BE the SOLUTION!

We should start a fund raiser for the unfortunate 10%.

As for itsyourworld_changeit, you have some good points, but then went to crap after zero tolerance.
Extremists wouldn't take on the US military, they'd take out the white house. Problem solved.
"People don't kill people, GUNS DO!" Uh.... how does a gun kill someone if no one is holding it? And plenty of people were killing each other long before guns were around. In fact, they still are.
"Take guns off our streets, secure our borders so no more guns can get in and then they won't fall into the wrong hands."
LOL! Kinda like the war on drugs? That's been real effective, eh?
Think before you type. It helps.

Very few gun owners have only one weapon. Most I know have anywhere from three to ten guns. I suspect that while the ratio is high, the non-gun owners outnumber those who do.

I am surprised at the tv ratio - I would have thought there would be more tv sets than people by now.

if you don't wanna look at gun-ownership in a self/family protecting way... then look at it this way... the government NEEDS to be frightened that the citizens of this country are armed. many people in washington would love to end gun ownership so that the citizens of this country could never revolt. i know it sounds far-fetched... but, it's the truth. that is the BIGGEST deterrent of too much government corruption. 250 million armed citizens... AND lets not forget it being a deterrent against foreign invaders.

Don't give them up, you may need them. Not because of terrorists, but because of Bush!

It would be nice if everyone had one, but I am sure that is not the way it is and those figures are not correct as in insinuates that 90 out of 100 Americans has a weapon. It is probably more like 30 out of 100, with those 30 owning 2 or more weapons!

That they know of. Plus, for the most part, they are responsible citizens who own them. If you go to parts of, say, Israel, before entering a shopping mall, armed guards will ask you if you are carrying any firearms, and to please leave them at the door.

250 million guns = 16,000 murders per year.
250 million cars = 45,000 vehicle deaths per year.

'nuff said.

...in response to the 'tard from Canada, there are only 60 child deaths per year from guns and 600 from bicycles.
'nuff said.
