If looking to buy a fast computer, what are the important things I need to look for? This computer will be used for college, photo editing, and ITunes.

Like most things, it depends. If you are a typical student, doing several things with the computer at once, multiple-core processors will be faster. If you are rich, there are some quad-core procesors around.

If your computer runs one program at a time,(which is doubtful, if you are running Windows) it won't make much difference.

If you are doing photo editing, load up on memory and invest in a good graphics card.

If you are looking at graphic processing, then the AMD 64 Dual Core rocks, b cus its capable of processing GPU's way better than the Intel Dual Core Processors.

But then again, if you are looking at the Intel Pentium Quad Core processors, they are obviously much more powerful.

Other things to look out for are RAM and Graphic card.
I recommend a minimum of 2GB RAM and a value for money graphic card like geforce 8600GT.

actually, it depends on the physical memory of a system. but when choosing on those two you had mentioned, the Advanced Micro Devices are the most popular and the most reliable type of computers rather than the Intel pentium brands, AMD (Athlon, Sempron, etc..) have a multi system funtioning, either dual, quad and so on... they are still the best for multi media computer system.
