so you have never seen a commercial for intel pentium processors im guessing. that is one brand of cpu. it is a square chip inside your tower. usually under a fan to keep it cool. open up your cabinet every once in a while to get the dust out. otherwise your processor will run slow

they sell cans of air in the electronics section to blow out the dust

Actually the correct term for CPU is Central Processing Unit, which is a processor, not the case that contains everyting from your motherboard to your hard drive and CD drives. That is system unit.

CPU is a processor, or technically, its a general purpose processor. there are other processor in your PC like graphic processor, or your sound card which has an audio driver. CPU is consider general purpose because its design to process instructions from all kind of applications. The application will be free to use its registry and stuff like that.
