I travel alone whenever I can - I absolutely love it!
Here's why:
- in developing countries, I often get special treatment as a woman
- it helps me build self-confidence
- it's easier - I never have to wait for someone, argue about where to go, what time to get up, when to eat...
I do love it, but there can also be some down sies and it's best to know and anticipate these before you go. What are the disadvantages of solo travel?
- you can get lonely at times, but there are plenty of ways to beat that loneliness
- you are more of a target for men seeking girlfriends - low-level harassment such as whistles and catcalls are common
- you may be more of a target for theft, but a few simple precautions can right that balance
How do you make sure you don't get lonely on the road? A few simple tips:
- get a routine: get up at the same time each day, keep photos of your loved ones at the side of your bed, do you exercises... whatever works best for you!
- go to places where you can meet people - like second-hand bookstores, backpacker coffee shops, hostel lounges...
- take a short course - learn to cook in France or Thailand, paint in Italy, play guitar in Spain... a 2-3 day course in your hobby of choice will dispel any loneliness, help you brush up on the language, and meet people!

I prefer my alone time, i find it quite soothing just being out in the world alone (hmm, when i say it like that it sounds soooooo lonely :[ ). But, its really not.
I don' travel with friends because i seem to always end up being begged (or forced) to foot the bill. When im traveling alone i can stay where i want, eat where i want and buy what i want w/o unnecessary input.
I *could* join a group but, alone is my preferred method of travel. Of cause, that's not to say i don't often travel with friends or family.
My friend call me a "loser" sometimes but, its mainly because im unafraid to go it alone and make friend along the way...you'd be surprised who you'd meet.

Traveled alone all the time. Travel Agent here. Granted once I got to my destination there were other travel agents. But still I was on my own.

Only when I have to.. And when I do, I really do just travel: I go from one place to the other.
Otherwise, I love travelling (as in sight-seeing or touring) with people I have fun with.

Except for the trips on job, I do not travel alone. Otherwise , it is better to join the organized groups .
