I have read that pouring boiling water on the weeds will kill them.

Pull them out by the root. But why not go ahead and use Round up or something like that? You won't be hurting anything but the weeds since the concrete sidewalk has already destroyed the local environment.
When used as directed on the label, such chemicals are safe and effective.

Poor boiling water on them. It kills the weed and the seeds.

Boiling water. We used to do that at the botanical garden where I worked. Just heat a teakettle and pour it straight on.

You could try spraying them with undiluted vinegar, or just pour boiling water from the kettle on them.

spend an afternoon plucking them from the roots. They'll never come back if you get rid of the roots.

if you dont want to use chemicals, the best way is the old way...pull them out along with the roots..thats what i do...
