Follow with whatever instructions are included with the Summons. If you are chosen you can call ahead (1 day in advance) to see if you must show up or excused.

Be sure to tell your employer about the summons and you will be excused from work.

When you show up remember to bring ID with you, and remember to carry a lunch pack, snack or money for food.
Bring a book with you or whatever it is to keep you entertained that is QUIET (remember there are cases going on).

During the selection process you will be asked questions, your response should be truthful.

If you should get picked you will be notified that day, or will be asked to leave if you don't fit the criteria of a good jury member.

Don't forget to pick up your check. Which will be about 5-6 dollars. Bring it back to your employer for proof that you were at jury duty.

A few things:

1) Don't be nervous. Most people called to jury duty do not actually sit on a jury. They like to have a wide group to pull from and the prosecution and defense will exclude a large number of people for a variety of reasons.

2) Its a civic responsibility of ours to serve on a jury. Plus, it can be really fun. You get to see some fascinating cases being tried.

3) Don't worry about missing work. Most states require employers to give employees time off to meet their civic responsibilities, which include Jury Duty.

4) Many states also have the rule that if you don't get chosen for one jury, you are then allowed to leave. I had an experience where I was called for the first jury and excluded. My whole experience lasted an hour and a half.

No dont be nervous!!! They explaine everything when you get there. I dont know how your state works but here in MA you call the day before to see if they are still going to need you. If they do not then great if they do the it stinks. Go in comfortable nice cloths, dont get to dressy, there is no need for that (suit) but look presentable. Bring something to do like a book to read or your Ipod because the last time i went in June i sat in a small room w/ 40 other people for 4 1/2 hrs before they let us go. I was so bored, good thing i brough my phone (games on it), a mag and some music and even with that i was so bored. Some people even brought there breakfast w/ them from like Dunkin Donuts lol. We all watched a 15 min video of exactly what happens if they decide to call you to be on the Jury so i really wouldnt worry about it. Good luck! (Its not that bad no worrys!!)

No, you shouldn't be nervous.

Jury duty is one of the most important responsibilities of being a citizen of the United States. Many legal disputes can not be resolved without jurors, and your fellow citizens, who're engaged in those disputes, need your help in deciding those cases.

Typically jury duty is for a limited period of time, and you're only called once every few years.

While it's certainly an inconvenience, it's part of the price we all pay to live in this country. (And yes, in my state, lawyers get called for jury duty too!)

Don't be nervous, jury duty can be very interesting. Just make sure you call in when you are supposed to. Anyway, that's how we do it in Michigan. Besides you get paid for it!

Be honest and open minded. If you are picked for a jury trial evaluate the facts and don't be swayed by peer pressure.

Bring something to read, there is a lot of waiting. Listen carefully if you are chosen and take notes. Don't be embarassed to ask questions when given the opportunity.

You should not be nervous. Take a cushion to sit on, with you. You may be there all day, sitting and doing absolutely nothing.
