Although 'shag' consists of four letters and means the sex act, it is not a swear word. Shag originally refered to a type of tobacco smoked in pipes, usually by old men in quaint pubs.
The shag tobacco was usually teased out before being stuffed into the pipe, this action made the shredded tobacco look very similar to pubic hair. Thus the word shag became synonymous with the sex act, leg over, have it off, etc.
Shag Shag's artwork is a blend of hot rods, tiki heads, skeletons, voodoo lounge, and kustom kulture all rolled up in a swanky package.

Surfing around looking for 'shag' it soon becomes obvious that the word 'shag' in UK has quite a different meaning to it's cousin in the US, where shagging is apparently some kind of native dance.

I would've considered it a swear word, the general viewing public get offended by tiny things these days. I'm suprised they can get away with it without getting complaints.

It's actually a kind of tobacco... used frequently in my youth...
PS:
You used to be able to buy a brand called 'Digger's Shag'... it could have had two gs... can't quite recall... it's decidedly a tobacco reference though... it became slightly 'mucky' as a word... inside the fifties and sixties.
"Give 'er a good ol' shag..." or... "she needs a good shag.." was frequently used by blokes about females then... I wont tell you all the other saying that abounded about females then... since I'm a female... as I said... the ark;-)

Shag has never been a swear word as far as I know. It is slang for sex and that's not a swear word either!
