there are 4 cups in a quart.

so

42/100 quarts x (4 cups / 1 quart) = 42/25 cups = 1 cup + 17/25 cups

fyi. 2/3 cup = 16/24 so you're pretty close with 1 and 2/3

actually, now that I think about it.....

17/24 - 16/24 = 1/24 cup

1/24 cup x (16 tbls / cup) x (3 tsp / 1 tbls) = 2 tsp

so you need to add....

1 cup + 2/3 cup + 2 tsp

Since a cup is 1/4 of a quart the amount would be 42/25 which is 1.68 cups.

2 cups = 1 pint
2 pint = 1 quart
so 4 cups = 1 quart
so 42/100 quarts = 168/100 cups or about 1.68 cups

1 quart [US, liquid] = 4 cup [US]

Conversion:
= 42/100 quart * 4 cups
= 168/100 cups
= 42/25 cups

Answer: 1 17/25 or 1.68 cups

US system is fraction centric, very hard to convert.
Metric is decimal (like our money) and is much easier!

Here's the problem: you did not specify WHICH Quart!
There are actually 2 quarts in the US.
Liquid qt = 0.946352946L
Dry qt = 1.1365225 L

Two more quarts are used elsewhere:
Winchester quart = 2.5L
Reputed quart = .7577L

Most people think the liquid qt as the only one (they're wrong).
Anyway, for liquid measure:
.42qt * 0.946352946L/qt
= 0.39746823732L
= 0 397.46823732ml

FYI: ALL US weights and measures are now actually Metric measures. They are "defined" in the simple metric system
