0.2 mL drug + 9.8 mL water

= 0.2 mL drug in a total of 10 mL solution

This is a dilution of 0.2 in 10, or 0.2/10 = 1/50

The dilution factor = 50,
which is the reciprocal of the dilution.

It's 2%. You are diluting 0.2ml into a TOTAL volume of 10ml, so dilution factor = original volume/ total volume x 100

Addendum:

Falzoon is right. I forgot about the reciprocal.

= (0.2 - [0.2 / {9.8 + 0.2}]) / 0.2
= (0.2 - [0.2 / 10]) / 0.2
= (0.2 - 0.02)
= 0.18 / 0.2
= 0.9 or 90%

Answer: 9.8 ml of water is 90% as a dilution factor.
