Is the expression, "All letters should be dated" grammatically correct?

Or should it be, "All letters should have a date."

I like the first one better.

The first is grammatically correct, and its ambiguity is likely to be of concern only to folks here in w/wp.

The first is fine. "To date" as a verb can mean to apply a date to an object.
