Do an in place repair install which is a no destructive procedure, the only thing that will be replaced is your system files, and any service packs that are not included on your windows cd. Most xp cd's have sp2 slip streamed so all you'll need to do is redownload all you critical updates. I have a guide for doing this and remapping your "my documents" folder to another partition. If you have a single partition I highly recommend you create another one with gparted or some other live partitioning tool.

Try a repair install of Windows XP.

REPAIRING OR REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP

Turn your PC on and insert the Windows XP disk into the CD/DVD drive.

Reboot/restart the PC. This will cause the PC to boot from the XP disk and not the hard drive..

Allow the PC to run the boot up sequence. It will stop at a “black and white” screen and there will be an option to select a “repair” installation or a “full” installation.

NOTE:

If you simply want to repair/fix any and all corrupted and/or problem XP files select the “repair” option. This will only rewrite the XP files and will not affect any of your personal files or software on your PC.

If you want to Format the hard drive and rebuild it completely select the “full” installation option. Be aware that with this option you will “erase” all the files and software on that hard drive.

Select either the “repair” or “full” installation option and simply let the software run. Follow any onscreen prompts that may appear, especially during the “full” installation.

Hope this helps.

brglightning
u do not format the bios ! by the way
do this step by step
-------
start up in safe mode (F8)
go into the following folders and delete all the contents including folders in there

open windows explorer

kill everything in them, spare NONE !

C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp\*.*
-----------------
- delete all files and folders in this directory !
-----------------
-----------------
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\*.*
-----------------
- delete all files and folders in this directory !

and then empty RECYCLE BIN

After that scan for virus and spyware if u have the program/s.

Then restart in normal startup and see if this continues. If it does then I strongly and urgently request you to reinstall your Operating System

Then when u get connected to the net

download
http://firefox.com and use this instead of Internet Explorer

Here is the reason
