It was a hoax. If you gone a few pages pack you would have seen a million questions about it.
Moral: Don't believe what you hear until you check it out for yourself.

Any pictures you saw were faked.
This myth started in 2003 when Mars did come closer to Earth than any time in the past 50,000 years, and this bogus story has been repeated every summer ever since. But even in 2003 it never got close enough to look like anything other than a bright star. This year Mars will not pass close to Earth until winter, and even then it won't be as close as it was in 2003.

Hoax. Back on 27th August 2003 the Earth and Mars passed closely - closer than they've been for 60,000 years.
This close approach would have made Mars look brighter than usual, but it would still only have been a point of light.

We are about 93 million miles from the sun and Mars is about 3 times that.

It was a hoax. Mars' closest approach in 60,000 years was a few years back, and even *then*, it was just a bright star in the sky.

I also feel in the same trap. stayed up all night to see mars, all I saw was the bright moon.
I soo mad and cold i went to sleep at 0030. It was all over the papers and radio, i actually thought it was true. In the morning i told my friends and they laughed at me.

This happened several years ago. It appears that people can't get their dates correct.
