You probably mean the word hyphen which is a punctuation mark ( - ) used between the parts of a compound word or name or between the syllables of a word, especially when divided at the end of a line of text.

It is from from the Greek word huphen, a sign indicating a compound or two words which are to be read as one.

A hifan is a line between to words / names to join / say them together. If you have two first names, you'd write them
Kara-Louise.
The - in the middle of her names is called the 'hifan'.
Hope that makes sense.
