It is illegal for a doctor to perform surgery on a minor without parental permission. Body piercing involves cutting skin (surgery?). There are risks that a minor may not be able to properly evaluate (infections, hepatitis, AIDS, "labeling", lost job opportunities, etc.). Why should a technician (someone less knowledgeable than a doctor) be able to perform minor surgery on a child(or teen). There are medical risks as well as other things to consider.
I must confess that I got my ears pierces when I was 14 without parental permission. My parents almost sued!
When my sons were 14 and 16, we discussed piercing. I told then I didn't mind them piercing any body part that they didn't mind me cutting off. They both promptly got a body piercing (to test my stupid statement?). My oldest son got an infection in his tongue (painful). Both sons let the holes heal and don't wear jewelry, now.
Remember, the piercings cause scarring that will never go away completely.
Good luck with your debate!

This is an invasive procedure on the body and any minor should have parental permission before getting invasive procedures done. (depending on location of piercing on how invasive it is.)
Many parent do not approve of body piercings for a variety of reasons, and this will protect the businesses from angry parents , possibly lawsuits. After all, you can sue because your coffee is too hot, today...........
Under age 16 , and even 18, minors often fail to realize the permanence of some of their decisions.

1) Parents are much more knowledgeable than you.
2) They were where you are now
3) They know you might regret it later on. Can you imagine a prospective employer taking you seriously with body piercings.
4) At 21 you wont have the same feelings as you do now, and teenagers do, things they usually regret later on.

they are tooooo young to take care of theselves especially if an infection occurs then its on the parents so no kids are also not as mature and what they want now will be diffrent from what they want 4 years from now....they can def. wait till 18....plus they need to know alot about piercings to get them for instance....what should never be used to pierce cartilage...a gun! thats why you see 13 yr old girls trying to look cute with that lump called a keloid scar on the back of their ear....that is due to the shattering of cartilage by using a piercing gun......kids need to knowledge of what they are doing with their bodies....if they lack knowledge in school then why should they be able to make these decision yes its "their bodies" but whose insurance pays to take care of it? if i was a parent i wouldnt want to be responsible for a bill for a infected naval when my 16yr old went behind my back and got it done........good enough debate for you? lol Good Luck+

Due to the risk of infections with piercing, unless the under 18 child is an emancipated minor, they do not supply their own insurance or pay their own deductibles in case of infection. That is one arguement... it puts their parents at greater risk of having to pay out of pocket medical costs, so the parents should have to approve

Your child is going experimenting with her/his own independence....allow him or her to come to you with these issues and explain the risks involved. You could also negotiate or limit the amount of piercings you are willing to accept. Legally, a child under the age of 18 cannot get tattoos or body piercings without parental consent.

getting a piercing at a younger age against their parents permission my lead the child(youth) to hide the piercing from their parents and they may not take good care of it leading to infection which could lead to more serious things such as amputation of the infected area and even death.

I had always wanted a belly ring. When I got it I loved it. Then much later on it got infected & I removed it & had to get repierced. Then I met my husband & he doesn't like piercings at all so I had to remove it again. Even tough I didn't want to & fought about it for a while. So please think about consequences later on in life.

Though the body belongs to you fully it is not right to do certain things against the wishes of your parents since you are under their control till you start earning and look after yourself and your dependents.
For argument - if your parents throw you out of your (their) house what you will do - wd it be able to survive and live and look after yourself.
