No. Homosexuality is an aberration. It is not normal. Marriage is for a man and a woman. No name like marriage is going to make illegitimate behavior become mainstream and accepted.

Every time this issue comes up for a vote, particularly through state constitutional amendments or referendums, the idea of gay marriage is shot down. Not by 51%-49% margins, either, but by 60%+. Personaly, I really don't have a problem with gay marriage, but it seems like a lot of people do. Besides that, the President can't dictate something like that, and with the complete lack of support gay marriage has, you won't see a law on it passing outside of the court system any time soon.
The problem people have with the whole "marriage" thing is that in this country marriage is heavily tied in with religion. Yes, there are plenty of civil ceremonies, but if you force gay civil marriage down people's throats, how long before some one sues to get married in a church. Of the three major religions in the world (Judism, Christianity, and Islam), all three condemn homosexuality in their scripture. My best advice to gay people is to go for civil unions and domestic partnerships, there is a lot less anger about those. Gay marriage is a fight you can't win now, but maybe in 10-15 years, you could. This all or nothing approach is what pisses off voters, and will cause you to lose everything as Defense of Marraige acts aren't just passed into law, but written into constitutions to protect them from judges.

In America we practice freedom! Yes any adults that consent should be able to get married. There are things I don't like and things that I think will hurt or eliminate peoples chances for an afterlife but in a free society as long as its not hurting anyone they should be able to do it. FREEDOM means not having to be judged by holy-er than thou hypocrites that think they know the answer to everything!

What earthly difference would it make to the majority of people? Gay people don't go straight to get married, heterosexual people don't go gay to not get married.
The government isn't into supporting one religion over another, so if someone started a religion where gays could marry without penalty how could it be stopped other than by saying we will not allow that religion? If gay marriage meant faithfulness, wouldn't that be a good, moral thing.
I wouldn't ask a clergyman who represents one religion or another that doesn't think gays should marry, to marry gays, but a justice of the peace should. Just because your religion doesn't approve of something doesn't make it law. Jews and Muslims don't eat pork because of their religious law, secular law don't prohibit it. Secular law shouldn't prohibit gay marriage.

Homosexuality is a perversion. Marriage is between a man and a woman only. Thankfully this is how are laws will remain.
Side note to Robert...Learn proper English before replying. Your use of grammar makes you look more ignorant.

They already can.
There is nothing stopping gay people from getting married. They just have to marry someone of the opposite sex.

There would be no "marriage" or "civil unions" or anything else that encourages or supports homosexuality. This condition is not inherent, and is a Choice. It is an abomination to the Father, Son and Holy Ghost and to all man kind.

We do not have a president but a prime minister. Gays can marry here. So its not an issue. And rightfully so. To not permit gays to marry I find is backwards.

Unfortunately in my country, the president doesn't have the power to make that decision.
But, if I become head of state - I will permit.... homosexual marriages.
