I am planning to insulate 3 flats. They currently have low ceilings, but I wish to restore them to original height (less about 1 foot for insulation). Total area of flats are about 700 square foot each. I have had quote for £ 5300 to remove old low ceilings, create new ceilings with Rockwool insulation and then the celings will be skimmed. Is it decent price?

you don't say how much height the ceilings are now and how high it will be when they are raised .. ..you could fix tri iso 10 ..this is a multi layer insulation ..approx 25mm thick that you can fix to the underside of joist and is the equivalent of 250mm of insulation ..and is acceptable by building control ..and it works really well ..as for your question..its not a bad price

I am not familiar with the costs for restoring roofs etc but insulation for a standard pitched roof is around £500 for the recommended level of 270mm. With some schemes available you can get private householders a discount (vulnerable households or those receving certain benefits can get insulation free, those not qualifying can get a discount and end up paying between £100-£200) some of these schemes apply to private landlords too so it may be worth contacting your local council or energy efficiency advice centre for more information.

Anyway, back to your original question. As you are restoring flats and not getting your own place done you may not qualify for any discounts. What I would do in your case is get around 3-5 quotes for the work and that way you will know whether you are being quoted a fair price. Also worth checking credentials of firm you get to do the work, look them up on the Trust Mark website or Safe Trade.

Good luck

I was going to say what Miss Eddy said. I'd look into that, my Uncle is a landlord and recently got a grant off the local council to install new energy efficient combi heating systems and insulation in his property for free.

Worth a look.

Thanks and good luck.
