It's sometimes cheaper than using commerical stain remover.. Depends on the nature of the stain. Also, if you don't have a commercial stain remover or you don't want to ruin a garment or item.... For example.. I like bleach to clean the bathroom but, I rarely use it in the laundry because it yellows whites over time and weakens the fibers.. I LIKE to use baking soda in my wash instead because it doesn't have perfume/dyes and it helps remove grease/food stains.. It also leaves the clothes soft and odor free. It's also really, really cheap a 12lb bag which lasts me about a month only costs $5 and I use it for many other things... Good luck

No need to go shopping for other products, it's handy, cheap, already within reach, effective and does the job without hassle.
