I was sent this really gorgeous, cute but still sad thing from my friend about how much he missed me.

Could someone help me to write something back? Nothing I can think of is good enough.

Honestly? No matter what you write, it will mean the world to hear from you. Your friend will smile at whatever you write, if it comes from the heart.

It doesn't have to rhyme or be Pulitzer Prize material, just how you truly feel.

I suggest, sitting down with a pen and paper.
Now, write down how you felt when you received his letter.

For example: Happy, sad, thrilled, loved.

Write down words that come to mind when you think of your friend.

For example: Smart, funny, trusting, honest and caring. A great friend.

Then, write down words that come to mind, when you think of how you feel to know he's far away.

For example: Sad, lonely, lost, frustrated.

When you have a clear idea of how you feel, try to put them in sentences.

For example:

Dear (His name),

I was so happy to receive your letter, it made my day. It means a lot to me that i have a friend who cares about me, and who i care about in return.
Though, i have feelings of sadness when i realise that you're not around.
I miss you and your friendship, and the smart and funny person that you are. I hate not having my close and trusted friend around, who i can be totally honest with and be myself.
When i read your letter, i felt lost and alone, as i struggle with the frustration of not seeing my friend everyday and anytime i would like.
Although you may be far away, i feel great comfort in knowing that you are only a letter or phonecall away. I can't help but think of us and our times together and think about the day that we can see each other again.
You are a good friend and i value you in my life.

Thankyou for your letter and i hope to hear from you again soon.

All my love,

(Your name)

This letter is filled with the positives when mentioning your friendship, but also the bittersweet feelings that come from being to friends apart.

Have a go at what i suggested. Really, it will feel much more real to have this letter come from you.

I'm sure whatever you write will be perfect. You could always show it to another close friend for advice.

Don't worry and just write what you truly feel.

Write down some memories you love and shared wih him. Reminisce. Tell him the reasons why you miss him. An example would be: "I sit with these people during lunch but because your stupidity isn't participating it isn't half as entertaining and interesting." Sadness and humor, when balanced, works well together. Also, why not compose a song or poem dedicated to him? If that's to mushy then simply write "I miss you."

Step number one: Attempt Suicide Step number two: Fail attempted Suicide Step number three: Write a song that is up beat, but lyrics are depressing e.g The Smashing Pumpkins song Today or most Everclear songs I like 'sad' songs that tests listeners, like they'll hear a happy tune, and say they're listening to the lyrics, but then they'll be singing about some pretty awful stuff. Sad music doesn't have to be all about the minor chords.

Something sad - Hmmmm.
A bus load of (fill in the blank) goes off a cliff,
and there's an empty seat. (Very old one.)
Just insert some type of people the world might
be better off without.

I drank the night in
for I wanted to make a memory
I sought the moon out
and remembered there was no man there
I counted the stars
and thought, why can't you be here too?

-shrugs- is that sad enough? I tried, I tried... : )

I am really very sad that you are still feeling sad for the past which we could never change.

I dunno how to help you. I mean, it would have been easier if we compare notes and comment on each other's work to arrive at a desired masterpiece.

So I can only tell you now that you write something from your heart. Something nostalgic and sweet and sad... Before you write, try listening to soft and sentimental music. You know what they say, "art inspires art".

I hate the way you talk to me,
and the way you cut your hair.
I hate the way you drive my car,
I hate it when you stare.

I hate your big dumb combat boots
and the way you read my mind.
I hate you so much it makes me sick,
it even makes me rhyme.

I hate the way you’re always right,
I hate it when you lie.
I hate it when you make me laugh,
even worse when you make me cry.

I hate it when you’re not around,
and the fact that you didn’t call.
But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you,
not even close…
not even a little bit…
not even at all.

I miss you more than there are stars in the sky
I miss you more than the Heavens so high.
I miss your sweet smile and the way you laugh
I miss my partner, my other half.
