Shaq, by far. Even injured, gimpy Shaq is better than a healthy Yao.

Yao is right now. Yao lead all big guys in scoring last season even though he is criticized for being soft. Yao uses a finesse game while Shaq brings brute strength and power. Yao has a much much better shooting touch than Shaq and looks to be better skilled than Shaq. Shaq is more agile and althletic than Yao. Shaq is also a much stronger post player. Yao's speed is another thing that hurts him. As for Yao, it is truly amazing for a guy that size with that much skill set and he would be more effective if he was to use his size and strength a bit more like Shaq uses his. I feel we should appreciate Yao for what he brings to the game and he should improve as he continues. Even though he does not dominate in the way we would like to see, he is still effective. I remember the first time these giants clashed, Yao was giving Shaq all he could handle at first, blocking Shaq's first few shot attempts. Shaq had to go diesel and went on to dominate Yao. Overall Shaq wins the overall head to head matchups. No question Shaq would be the overall better player if he was not on the decline. When it is all said and done for Yao to be keep company with Shaq, he will have to be much more aggressive on both ends of the court, averaging a few more points, rebounds and blocks for the next several years.

I would pick shaq cuz he already got 4 rings and is one of the top centers to every play the game. Yao Ming has been getting knocked out every year in the first round with t-mac. He should be going to the finals with his team. Thats why i think shaq is better than yao.

Thats tough to say as Mings got speed & shots in his favour too but Shaq has a good history of dunking and has the strength and build for defense.
I think its a tie but the balance is a little tilted twards Shaq

Now, it is Mao, though he is not and never will be one who can take over a game. You may get a good half-season out of Shaq and he is not the sure ingredient for a successful playoff mix any more.
