natural disasters occur ,,the earth is in a stage of equilibrium,,plants provide oxygen for humans,,animals ,,the whole process is in a state of recycling ,,,and the earth is now getting into a vicious cycle which could harm its natural habitants, over centuries many geographical turnovers have happened ,the map of the world is in a state of slow gradual changing ,,this what happened in greece contributes to more ecological changes, ozone damage ,,and human life relocation,,it is a targedy to both lives ,,a country ,,and to nature,,it unfortunate but true ,,the human being is the most creature on this planet that has destroyed it,,and if this continues, extinction of animal species,,redrawing the globe map ,,unexpected meteological change,,making habitants known for centuries disappear,,,my heart and words go out to your pain and tragedy ,,greece will stand up again ,,but also we have to contribute by choosing protective correct politicans and punishing those responsible for such a national tragedy ,,,i admire your question its spoken with a heart strongly in love with a country full of pride,,

I read in a british newspaper yesterday that the fires were caused by the greed of Greeks and by the fact that they havent still realized the importance of forests. Meaning that we were not ready to protect our land. It was a bit harsh but I think its the truth. Our mentality must change, we dont respect our fellow compatriot we just care what car we will buy, what brand we will wear and what luxury house we will buy. The politicians are Greeks just as we are so the mentality is the same : No respect for anything or anyone. I am fed up with this situation in our country.

It truly has been more than terrible...beyond words! People are so selfish and this has to change! Everybody should go out now and plant two trees! I sincerely wish for this never to happen again, not only in Greece but also worldwide and that adequate measures will be taken by all governments to prevent this from happening ever again!
My sincere condolences to the Greek people who lost a loved one and to all your other innocent victims!

This is even bigger than the one caused at the World War II.
Because it is an environment disaster, which cannot and will never be recovered. Forests counting centuries of age, the fauna living in them, Natura net - habitats, and in addition an immense territory where thousands of people cannot leave and work any longer, as olive trees and other plantations need many years to become again the way they were.
Now it's time for all of us to help that formal forests get recreated, for the Greek State to organize for such immergencies, and for the Greek Church to dispose her uncountable property to the farmers who lost their land and houses.
Otherwise, we'll deserve the consequences...

leonardda - if we are totally honest with our selves we know very well that ppl don 't care about the environment AT ALL!
it's been like that since I've been a child! It doesn't help of course that we have such brutal summers that dry everything out! combine that wit ECO terrorism and there you go!
pane oi Thasi , pane ta panda!
it is high time for change!

I express my deepest sympathy for Greek people.
I saw it on Tv, read it in the newspapers.... it was such a terrbile thing to happen. As you say, let us all pray such things never to happen again, for no country on Earth.
We must try to keep Earth a peaceful and well protected planet, because Earth is our only Home.

we obsiously can get worst than this-
but I really dont want to find out what it could happen
so lets be happy it is over (almost) and be prepared so that we wont allow this short of situations to happen again
and of course we wish no country will go through this disaster like we did

I live in Greece too, (you know it Leonarda), we can not do anything. The only think we can do is to help the people who lost their houses. I make a site about real Greece, and in rhe home page I put an article about the fires in Greece. Go to see it. The site http://realgreece.blogspot.com/

Dear Leonarda, this disaster can be compared only with the one at Hiroshima and Nagasaki (together). And even more than this as the possibilities for recovery as -0.
