hi, congratulations with the baby, what an exciting time for you!! nipples have multiple holes covering the area. if you squeeze your nipples you will find where the milk oozes from, there are natural holes, although these may be blocked with crusty bits, just rub these off. you will excrete a watery substance which is the 'foremilk' this is like a drink for your baby, after this comes the 'hindmilk' a white creamy main course milk for your baby. in order to get your nipples ready for breastfeeding you need to 'tug' the nipple gently this will help stimulate the nipple and enable it to be supple, when the baby latches on to you the nipple will extend to the back of the babies throat, this is why this exercise is good, when latching the baby on ensure the whole nipple is in its mouth and that baby has some of the outer area around the nipple (sorry can't remember the name!) in there too, this area helps to stimulate the milk flow and feeding will be successful, if a baby sucks on just the nipple you will become sore. bathe your chest regularly and let the air get to it when you can at home, calendula cream is a good natural cream for the nipples if soreness develops and a hot flannel placed over the bust will help milk flow if engorgement develops. i've given you more info than you asked for but you may find it useful in your early days. eat and sleep well and drink plenty of fluids to help you establish a good breast feeding pattern, good luck with it all and enjoy!!!

I was so confused about this too, I was so worried I willl have to be cutting my nipples and stuff... ouch :) But no, it's already done for you. There is a lot of tiny openings, I always found that the main one is sort of in the middle of the nipple and the rest around. You will see when the milk comes it just appears from little holes all over the nipple so don't worry about making any holes (as I did :)...

There are several natural holes (not just one) in the tips of the nipples. They are always there. They are similar to the pores in your skin. You just can't really see them because of the texture of the skin on the nipple. Some women excrete clear fluid from time to time before ever having children, as a result of natural hormonal fluctuations.

when u deliver the baby, nurses or your relative ladies will press softly yr boobs for a while and within 5 minutes simple exercise milk will flow. Oftenly it come naturaly, but some time it is the thing of rubbing. Nobody make hole manually and please don't try to make hole by pin, etc it may be cause of Titneous or cancer too.

The holes in your nipples are called "ducts." The red or brown area around your nipple is called an areola.
