After 2 years it seems like the government has done all they are likely to do about New Orleans. The local economy can't even support the population that's already there, and the free market will determine the level of re-development.
You don't hear the people of Mississippi complaining and crying for more help. They rolled up their sleeves and got things done. Why does New Orleans deserve any more help?

I have a friend from New Orleans. He's hoping to get another debit card from the US Govt so he can get a surround sound system to go with the 42in. plasma TV that he purchased with the other debit card that they gave out. He couldn't buy it the first time because he had already used most of the card on lap dances.

good question. Back in I think it was 1918 there was an even more devastating hurricane and the people back then asked for no government help their friends family and other Americans just helped because it was the right thing to do. As far as New Orleans crying they were in bad shape before katrina hit high unemployment and even higher welfare people. You might want to ask some of the democrats who have been in charge of that city and state for over the last 50 years or so. No conservative ideals were used there so why if it was and is run by liberals isn't it a utopia to be admired and envied by all othere cities? I've asked this but just get blasted without any substantial answer. It's all Bush's fault and that's it!

Well, New Orleans is below sea level, so the water doesn't just wash away, it pools there. There's one reason. Two would be that Katrina was way more powerful when it hit New Orleans, because when it first hits land is when it's most dangerous. As a hurricane travels over land it becomes less and less powerful.

Three would be it doesn't matter, because the Bush Administration would just fuc.k it up more.

Maybe take a look at the demographics of the areas that were hit the hardest in New Orleans (i.e. the lower ninth ward). Rebuilding an entire city does take money. And I'm not too sure that if that area was not predominately African American that city would still be in complete ruins. They're crying for help because they truly need it. Not out of sheer laziness.

Last year, in the aftermath of devastating floods in China that destroyed thousands of homes, the Chinese government set a goal of rebuilding all those homes by February of this year. These were typical brick and mortar homes. China met that goal.

It seems China takes care of its people better in the aftermath of natural disasters significantly better then the USA.

Care to comment on that?

Please don't do the "yadda, yadda, yadda - well china is guilty of _____________(fill in the blank), the question really is very simple. We screw around, they don't....therefore, the Chinese government really does appear to have the peoples interest at heart, while we just play political and money games.

Pretty sad when a third world country beats out a first world one and all we can do is make up new and better excuses not to take care of the people during their time of need.

(splurkles, a third world country has done a better job as indicated above. The two thumbs down are from clowns that don't think America's $hit stinks -- or libertarian and other nefarious devils who leave out the preamble to our constitution)

Peace

Because the under class that many Americans were chock to find out even existed, have not the money or had the insurance to help them rebuild...My sister who is red cross volunteer will dispute your analysis,as she helped thousands
of Mississippi residents of all class, who all complained about the lack of government help...Two years after Katrina, much of Mississippi still looks like a disaster area, its just the media has lost focus but the fact remains,Katrina is proof of the Bush administration incompetence !

What your govt has done for New Orleans is a disgrace. A third-world country could do a better job.

It doesn't, let the blacks reduild their community. Instead of looting it to death as those black police officers caught on camera did. lol I can't believe when she was questioned by the interviewer that caught her that she said she was doing her job. That was terrible. All that beer, they were desperate times though. LET'S GO SHOPPING.
