This occured in my early 30's and I,unlike many, enjoyed serving on a jury and even being the foreman. Sometimes you have to be strong willed to get the juriors back on track and not meanering off on something that has nothing to do with the actual case you are making a call on.
Why do you,if you have, refuse to serve on jury duty? Do you know the main requirement to serve on a jury?
I could have put this under 2 other catagories but like polls and surveys as more people check them out.

Yes, I have served on jury duty. I like it actually. It's very entertaining and interesting. Plus if I were in trouble, I'd want someone like me to be on my jury. One requirement is you can't be a convicted felon. Another is you can't be related or know the defendant personally.

Never served Jury duty...never been sent a notice to..
However, I would like to be on a jury....
Well now that I think about it....it could be nerve wracking....What if you make the wrong decision...and someone goes to jail for life...or what if someone goes free and they are up for like murder or rape because you make a wrong decision...eeks....
I think that ppl don't want to serve jury duty sometimes cause they loose money from time missed from work...or are afraid they will have to stay under lock and key for months at a time...
But it would be interesting to see first hand what goes on in a court room...a great civics lesson...
Hey Smokeahontis
Ask Chanty what the judicial system is like in South Africa....and read to see what it is like in other countries....Our the judicial system in America DOES have some problems....and juries are not perfect...they are however PEOPLE selected to make a decision...and People by nature are emotional..and do not always make decisions based solely on fact...BUT....our nation has a GREAT appeals process...which is a good check and balance to an imperfect system....
And, They best way to make a change in something is to become PART of it...and part of the solution....

I've been on Jury Duty twice now, and I loved it. The day was a lot shorter, than my normal working day, and the cases were always interesting. I've never been Foreman though, I think that would be a bit daunting.

Check out the link below. (all this info based on living in UK)
My dad's done it, my boyfriends done it, my friends husband has done it, I never have but kind of would like to.
My gran got sent a summons for jury service but had to decline on account of her age at the time.
You can't refuse jury service however you can decline as per their rules due to your age, criminal record/convictions etc. When you are summonsed you are sent a checklist that you need to read through to ensure you are eligible for service, and if not you need to fill in the form to be excused from service as you do not meet the criteria.

My wife was. The guy was found guilty of assault and battery against his girlfriend. His girlfriend testified on his side. They almost let him off and had to convince one juror. Most felt a little bad since the girlfriend was on his side, but after the trial the judges told them that he was going to be transported to another state to face a murder charge.
She was a little worried about being a foreman since only the foreman had to sign their name to the decision.

No, I'm from South Africa where there is no jury system... think there is too much racial segregation for the jury system to work effectively in this country...
