This security centre kicked off big time when I attempted to change to Zone Alarm Security Suite. Demands for more subscription charges, Telling me my system was full of virus and Trojans when, in reality, my PC was running normally. The only problems seem to be Symantec Norton itself. It blocked my access to the net by setting up a firewall against the other which I was going to set up and Norton was almost impossible to uninstall. In fact, I could not get rid of it and I daren't touch anything without Norton piping up telling me that my system is in need of their security suite and must send my subscription immediately. If this is happening elswhere, then this company needs stopping but I don't know how! What should I do? In fact, is there anything I can do? It's doing my head in!!!!!

This has always been the case with Norton. Its notoriously difficult to totally get shot of!! It installs itself within the Registry too.

Try this : http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Ignore all the stupid pop ups - get shot of it and replace with something like ZoneAlarm for your firewall and AVG for antivirus. Good luck.

Says who.

Norton is famous for being difficult to uninstall. I had been having difficulties uninstalling it as well but good news, there is a removal tool available for download from www.symantec.com. Just visit the link and search for "Norton removal tool", follow the on screen direction.

Choosing Zone Alarm is a wise decision. Thumbs up!

The pop ups are not from Symantec, they are part of a virus. I had the same thing happen. The only problem is when you call Symantec to get help they want to charge you $99! I said no way and tried to do it myself (Not Fun!). I ended up calling the Microsoft Security people and they fixed everything! For FREE! My Advice: CALL MICROSOFT!

I would say that you remove Norton, and they are scaring you by telling you that you are infected so that you will keep Norton. Did you try to uninstall it via add or remove programs? If you don't see it i would recommend that you download CCleaner, this will get rid of the program and other registry keys that is associated with Norton.

Not only should you Add/Remove Norton, you should Add/Remove LiveUpdate, then run the Norton removal tool. I've not had any issues with Norton, I run 2007 with a long subscription. I had used AVG & ZoneAlarm in the past and wasn't happy with them.

To japiecrox, you don't know much about Norton do you?
Go to the link below, it's a Norton removal tool.
I personally think Norton is a virus in it's own right. It is extremely difficult to remove, just like a virus. Dump it.

It is a well known PAIN to uninstall. Norton have now created a special 'uninstall' tool which I believe can be downloaded free from their web site. Nothing else seems to remove it completely.

Start your PC in Safe Mode (F8). Then uninstall all Symantic/Norton products and forget about them.

There are plenty of good Free anti virus and anti spyware programs out there that are much better than norton.
