When SORN has been declared for a vehicle the registered keeper must ensure that it will not be used or kept on a public road until a new licence has been taken out

Whether it's off the road or not, and you are the registered keeper, if it not taxed you Must fill in a Sorn form or you will automatically get a £40.00 fine, the other answers saying that it's OK if it's not on the road is rubbish. and if you take their advice you will get a fine.

As far as the DVLA are concerned, if it is off the road you can declare SORN.

However, you should check the small print of your lease for the parking space as it may insist that the space is only used by cars with valid tax and insurance.

If its on a public road, it can't be declared SORN - must be on a private drive or in a garage.

If is on private land, then all is well.
Race cars are not registered to operate on privatley owned tracks. Wy sons' jalopy wanders across the feilds and through the woods with no plates on.
It is not even SORN registered, as that is paperwork gone mad. So if you are not using public highways, you can do as you please, as long as you have the land-owners permission, it is safe and not bothering anyone.

contact the dvla , you can do it online even. You will have to fill in a form and return it. It's free of charge. Or get the form from the post office. Ask for a sorn form.

Should be OK on private property. You can't keep it on the public highway or in a public car park . Can be in the open. Does not have to be in a garage.
