No, Top Contributor is just a label like Heinz, or Mercedes, or Sony (notice different brands with completely different product lines). TC's have "sold" enough products by earning a certain percentage of Best Answers to their customers' questions (and voters on Y!A, for undecided questions) in their particular area of expertise. So, although those customers may see the private label and be impressed at first, if they take that TC's answer for a test drive (by reading it) and find they don't like the ride, the sound system, or the taste, they won't get the sale (BA) this time.
Maybe a Smuckers, a Ford, or a Panasonic, will give them BA for their particular question, maybe not. It could be an old Edsel that rings the bell for this particular question. Or maybe some Homemade Preserves, a Do-It-Yourselfer, or a Custom Chopper (with no brand labels on them) can do the trick this time to come up with a BA.
So, bottom line here, in my eyes, you can look at a Mercedes for a BA and expect a high-quality product most of the time, but if it's not a perfect fit, you'll probably buy something else.

No, I don't think it would have anything to do with their badge.
I was answering questions of top contributors before I got the badge. When I choose answers I would not be aware if they are TC. There were TCs who asked questions and I gotten best answers. I don't know if that is before of After.

I would sincerely hope that when people pick my answer as best is because of the answer and NOT my TC badge.
for MY questions - I always pick the Best Answer purely on its own merit NEVER because it was from a Top Contributor.

There seems to be a lot fewer "Top Contributors" these days. Apparently a lot of people were abusing the privelege.
I tend to reward people for witty answers, and just so I'm not trying to play favorites with my contacts, I generally award tiebreakers (more than one equally worthy answer, in my opinion) to cool people who aren't contacts.
I'm not jealous of people like Judas Rabbi and Sainter, but their Q and A's tend to be very mundane, shallow and point-driven.
Basically, if someone is entertained by my questions, and they in turn make me laugh or somehow compel my wit or intellect, they stand a strong chance of winning my ten-plus.

Actually it is a little bit of both... They don't become the Top Contributer for nothing... Unless they had cheated to become a Top Contributer... ^_^
But as for myself, I choose the Best Answer because it is the Best Answer to my question.

I think we are all equally the same. I choose based on best answer.. not if they are a TC or not.
