because they are night creatures, and it's dark down there. and i guess 'cause they like playing around.

Rabbits are a popular food animal for many predators. Therefore, they prefer dark, defendable places that resemble the rabbit warrens they dig and live in when they are in the wild. You'd hide, too, if you were tastey and on the menu of larger creatures....
Oh, look! Is that Hannibal Lecter over there? :P Quick, go join the rabbit under the bed.....

I hate it when I've got rabbits hiding under my bed. For those who don't believe, have you ever seen a rabbit under your bed? No? Well, SEE HOW WELL THEY HIDE?

Man have you ever tried to tunnel your but into carpet?
Rabbits are food...... for almost everything........ and as a result
spend a fair amount of time scared and wanting to hide.
Under the bed is the closest thing to a rabbit warren.

Probably because it's the next best thing to living in a tunnel under the ground which is there normal habitate.
