Jamestown was just discovered on the Potomac and is now being processed and rebuilt.
In Labrador the first settlements of the Norse people, some they don't know how they were, are being rediscovered.
In Ohio, the river valley, the early Indians of the area go back over five thousand years.
In Michigan, more then several places they are digging up Mammoth remains and large Rhinos.

The list goes on and on.

Archaeology doesn't have to involve the excavation of ancient artifacts. In Europe we have archaeologists involved in the excavation of First and Second World War sites that are less than 100 years old.

In America, archaeologists are working on the sites of the native Americans, but are also working on battle sites from the Civil War and the War of Independence, for example.

By the way, the excavation of dinosaurs would properly be palaeontology, not archaeology.

Most definitely
there are no less than thirty or forty "digs" going on within this country on a continuing basis !!
There are sites that are exploring dinosaur fossil recovery -- sites that are investigating ancient sites of early civilizations --and sites that are looking for treasure from ancient ships off the coastlines !!
Add to this -- the ongoing research at several universities and museums into theses subjects with the materials that they already have in their inventory --- AND, the ongoing numbers of students being trained in these fields --- and, you have a THRIVING archaelogical community here !!!!!!!!!!!

To the poster below -- the study of dinosaurs IS paleontology -- the recovery processes ARE archaelogy !!!

Of course, there is archeology in America.
Humans have lived in North America for at least 11,000 to as much as 13,000 years and possibly longer.

Coming over on the Bering Land Bridge during the Ice Age has been the dominant theory of the origins of humans in the western hemisphere.

I have worked as an archaeological field technician on prehistoric sites in the Midwest. We have found artifacts as old as 9,000 years (early Archaic Period), to as recent as 50 years old (European/American Historic Archeology).

In the prehistoric archeology (before written records, native American artifacts), lithics (stone tools, flakes, spear and projectile points), are the most common. Ceramics are less common, and only appear later.

I worked on a natural gas pipeline project in the state of Illinois, and we found literally hundreds of prehistoric sites in our phase one survey (200 miles long, 50 yards wide), path across the center of the state.

North American archaeology is pretty amazing, and there are some great universities that specialize in North American archaeology, such as Southern Illinois University and Indiana University.

Everywhere. The west has a lot of places, it's just loaded with Native American Places. Illinois has the Mound Builders. I think they are still working on the Roanoke site of the first European settlers site

Artifacts and remnants from 50,000 years ago to today! There are digs going on all the time, in every single state.

Now, of course, dinosaurs have nothing to do with Archaeology, that is Paleontology.

Yes. Artifacts and villages of peoples who lived here over 50,000 years ago...called First Americans and ancestors to our Native Americans today. Also there are species of dinosaurs that are being found.
