I only have my tongue halfway in my cheeks gentle readers!

Consider this: Clive Cussler likes dachshunds.

Dirk Pitt has red hair is very macho extremely self confident fearless bold likes to explore brave courageous fights again impossible odds winds against greater larger foes ...

Sounds kinda like a male dachshund?

Certainly he has many of the personality traits of dachshunds

Anyone know if Clive Cussler ever had a dachshund called Dirk or Pitt?

I do wonder sometimes?

Don't know if he had any dog by that name. But he does have a son named Dirk who has co-authored two of his books so far. And Dirk Cussler may have been the inspiration for Pitt's first name as he was born about twelve years (depending on the month of his birth and the month of publication) before the first Pitt novel was published.

Why don't you go to his website and ask him. I do know he is a lecher. A lady who was the manager of a bookstore in Sacramento that I have known for years said that during the breaks of his booksignings he would constantly hit on her, even though she told him she was happily married for fifteen years. And he kept it up the entire day. But, he writes good books.

Dunno', though it does seem to me that most adventure writers name a major character "Dirk." Interesting. It may be a kind of knife.
Re: daschund (sp), they are like that.
