I was in a big debate about Iraq and I was saying what a colossal waste of money and blood it was. We have no objective. Then it just came out of my mouth that I would rather free Cuba than Iraq. And I would. Plus, it makes a whole lot more sense.

And to the person who answered, "Why? They have a better health care system than we do.", I would like to ask (him) If he would prefer better state health care, if he had to live on $35.00 a month. And was not allowed to go out and find a second job.

Here's the thing...
We don't need anything from Cuba. Even with the embargo, we can still get anything that we think we need from them via Mexico, etc. Also, we have a large part of Cuba as our Naval Base (GITMO). We have nothing to gain but a bunch of people who would feel as though they had been taken over by the "Dam*ed Capitalists". Cuba is so close to Florida that it is safe from outside interference, because even though we hate to admit it, if a missile or some such thing was aimed at Cuba, we would use it as a reason to attack whoever lobbed a volley so close to the US.
The other thing here is that Iraq, though it appears to be a clustrf*$k, would have economic advantage for the US in terms of OIL and access to the Middle East in general.
I agree, I think that "liberating" Cubans would be cool, but most of the people there don't really know anything but Castro. They are being primed to be led by by Castro's brother, who is really just going to be a proxy leader for Hugo Chavez. That's where the trouble will be.
Chavez will be able to raise the standard of living in Cuba, and Americans will be SOL as far as gaining any support for "liberating" them from what we consider an unfair way of life.
In Iraq, however, there is no "Safety Leader". I don't care how pi**ed people get at me for saying this, but Now that Hussein is dead, those people have no unifying point to use as a guide for how they live. As long as he was alive, there was a chance that things could return to normal, even if the "normal" in Iraq is different from the "normal in Chicago, or NYC, LA, or Bangalore. It was normal to them. This is why it's important for us to let the Iraqis work it out on there own. As far as the US being there, I don't like it at all, and I think we should never have gone there in the first place, but facts is facts, and we are there now.
The whole thing stinks, and I think that we should just stick to doing what we do best- Buying stuff and griping about our politicians!

YES GloBe - America stay the hell out of Cuba and let Cuba alone. And when you bring up the topic of human rights think about the US bs of holding people for years with no visits from family in their prison at Guantanamo Bay. With no real charges laid. Some of these prisoners were only young teenagers when taken. If the US is supposedly promoting human rights - then they should live by what they preach.

Free Cuba!?! What have you been smoking? This is what gets my pantie in a bunch, why do you and so many other American think that these other countries need to be so- called "FREED"!!!
I sure if America "Freed Them" they will think that they had been taken over by the "Dam*ed Capitalists" that they call America. Yes! Some Cuban have left Cuba to come here but, a hell-of-a-whole-lot of them have chose to stay in their own country.
So come off of that high horse that Americans ride by thinking they can come in and save people from themselves, when they didn't asks to be saved or "Freed"as you put it in the first place.
Besides, America would only do to Cuba what it have done to Jamaica, bring in American Businesses and force the Natives businesses out of business, only to hirer them for cheap labor and put the country into Debit with high interest loans and no way to pay them back, thus taken over the country.
America can't take care of it's own country, they need to "Free" itself first from lying politicians, cheating/stealing Presidents, over looking the Minorities, and stop selling out the poor men and women that they send overseas to fight wars that have no baring on Freedom, before they can change any other Country.

The U.S. is not the world's policeman. Overthowing Castro would just cost more money and American lives. Fidel Castro will be gone soon anyway and his brother is said to be more agreeable to the west than his brother. Wait and see what happens. What we don't need is to invade another country. As is, we'll probably end up invading Iran. GHU. :-)))

If we thought there was oil in Cuba, we'd have occupied it 50 years ago. We might still invade, just so we can build a bunch of oil refineries there.

I am a strong believer in good karma. I think that the cubans are suffering and life is not well for them. Anything we as people "not Americans" can do to help other people we should at least try.
