What does the expression - ''She is on the slab'' mean. A man broke up with his girlfriend and his parents are comforting him. They then remember that they know a girl who is available. The father says: ''Jim and Nancy's daughter Tina is on the slab again.'' What does it mean. Thanks.

Imagine meat on a slab is being cut by the butcher and put on display for sale. On the slab means available, so would be there for courting or dating.

I have heard of on the shelf before which means someone who has not married at all ie a spinster but not on the slab

I, too, have never heard this expression (it may be antiquated), but from the context, it is obvious that it means that she is back in circulation (available to date) again.

That's a really obscure expression, I've never heard it but from that context it means that she is available to date, she is single.

I don't know exactly, but Urban dictionary says it means she is dead.
However, I believe it means that she's available or something like that.

She is free to date again. Being that the father said it and many father say things to there son they shouldn't. It may mean she is sleeping around. Some word do not have one meaning. English confuses us too.
