I was camping in Washington state and I got a chance to meet a Fish Bioligist, his theory was that people are afaid of all types of water (yes even lakes and rivers) because of the 1975 movie JAWS, that was a new one to me - I mentiond the shark attacks in the Creek in the early 1900's and he had never even heard of it....

I'm not afraid of any body of water until it looks dangerous - like a raging river or high waves in the ocean.

I had never heard of that shark attack before. WOW! I wonder if Al Gore blames that on global warming???

i think people mostly are afraid of water because they are afraid of drowning and death. maybe they are afraid of the ocean because of jaws, but i doubt lakes and rivers.
