Is transportation/shipping cost considered a direct variable costs?

Freight-in is part of purchases or merchandise inventory and so it'd be part of cost of goods sold when the goods are sold. Freight outwards are delivery or selling expenses and belong to SG & A expenses and therefore not attributed to product costs.
