Current videos show New Orleans still in ruins, two years after the fact. Homeless people are camping out, across from City Hall. Rents are unreasonable and repairs to homes, where insurance has denied claims, has been impossible. Thousands have never even returned to their homes in New Orleans. Didn't Halliburton get the no-bid contract to repair the city? Is our government short of money. Where is our money being spent? I hope I'm wrong, but it almost seems as though it's a cleansing process of the poor people.

They viewed it as a photo-op event for publicity. When the bridge collapsed in Minneapolis recently, Bush was there 4 days later to do a photo-op with the man that helped the kids on the school bus that dropped. Simple mismanagement and cronyism like everything in the Bush-Cheney Administration.

You're right. Crime is up there, murders are up. You'd think that, with a little ongoing direction and funding, people would work together. Instead, it seems only the insurance companies and political friends are getting any help.

Where did you hear Hallibruton got a no-bid contract to repair New Orleans. How about a link on that one.

Much of New Orleans should have been razed before Katrina.

You need to get together with the environmentalists who want the levees taken down so the habitat can return that prevents things like Katrina from happening.

The issue is not that clear cut.

Should a city built next to the Sea, below Sea level be completely rebuilt? Seems like stupid idea to me. Rebuild a smaller, safer New Orleans on higher ground that can stand the test of time. Sure you could pacify the population and rebuild everything, if you can not guarantee safety isn't that worse? Maybe FMEA learned a lesson and does not want to be held accountable for a situation they have little to no control over whose consequences are very sever?

Besides given the local leadership why would you want to live there anyway? Crime at an all time high? Why there is plenty of work to do, why aren't the criminals helping to rebuild rather then tear down the city?

It would seem like a way to limit poor people, but it's really an effort to eliminate government corruption and ineffectiveness that is at the bottom of this. The government has tightened regulations on who applies for money, and most importantly, how they apply. It has made the paperwork for the grants and loans people need to rebuild take much longer to make their way from application to approval and distribution. The levees are estimated to be rebuilt to the pre-Katrina levels (level 3 hurricane) by 2011. It is disheartening.

I would have to say Iraq is bleeding us dry...

I would also say the location of New Orleans and the current levy system needs to be fixed to before the government will rebuild. I suspect the government is waiting to insure that such a disaster cannot happen again before putting
more money into a future disaster zone.

I am from Moore Oklahoma. Twice the city has been completely destroyed by tornadoes. We have managed to rebuild and the already prosperous town is even better.

How many more billions have to be shoveled at New Orleans before we say enough is enough. How much of that money has ended up in Dollar Bills freezer? It is time for New Orleans to get off of the titty and rebuild itself.
