I work with some friends who are from india. They are like my brothers now and I love them very much.
Would it be acceptable if I gave them rakhis??
and if so would it matter now that it is a day late?

Yes dear you can do it now also. They would love it.
At least if it was me I would have felt like winning one million dollar lottery.

Rakhi must be tied or given on Raksha Bandhan Day itself- It can be tied or given to Brother- Husband- Lover- Friend etc for their safety. But most of the women of India will celebrate it by tying it to their brothers itself.

i think ur friends would be very appreciative of your sentiments and welcome the rakhi, even if reached them after the day it is actually celebrated. indians are very emotional by nature and the thought that you feel they are family would bring more joy than worrying about the rakhis arriving a few days late. go ahead and express ur affection :)
