Why isn't Jason Giambi suspended?

He admitted he took steroids during his prime years when he was jacking up 30-40 HRs a year in Oakland...why isn't he suspended

also, does that mean all the numbers he put up will be removed from the books...isn't he on the top 500 Home run hitters of all time list?

are they gonna take away the AL MVP they gave him?

why are people sympathetic dealing with Giambi!

why are people giving him the benefit of the doubt??? like saying he took then when steroids weren't tested for or substances weren't banned

Just like Bonds he took steroids. PERIOD. both are guilty! No one accepted those excuses when it comes to Bonds...they said he took steroids. PERIOD...doesn't matter, he cheated and I agree!

Athletes are responsible for whats in their system...both of them cheated!

More than regarding the suspension, I'm shocked that Giambi isn't getting nearly the heat or negative press that Bonds is getting EVEN AFTER Giambi admitted to doing steroids wow

I think this is the third time I have written this, but I will write it one more time because it is the truth:

Jason is not getting too much heat because America is essentially a forgiving society, and Jason came out and admitted he made a mistake in taking what he took. He was very forthright in admitting what he did, and let's face it - that took guts.

Think about it: If Jason had been dragged over the coals for admitting to what he did, how many other players would EVER consider possibly coming forward and admitting their wrongdoing in the future? Well, not too many - if any at all.

Sure Jason was wrong when he took the stuff, but at the same time, back then, EVERYONE WAS FAIRLY IGNORANT OF WHAT THE STUFF WOULD DO, OR THAT IT WAS EVENTUALLY GOING TO BE ILLEGAL because most of the stuff back then WAS NOT ILLEGAL.

If he would have been unduly punished for his using back then and for freely admitting his use, the other players who may have used would crawl into the woodwork like cockroaches when the light is turned on. Thanks to the leniency shown Giambi due to his honesty, perhaps we can one day put this whole mess behind us because others willl not be so hesitant to come forward with what they know.

Because hes not and its not like hes still doing them. Look at Vick. say something about that. I think steroid use is MUCH less important then what he has done and he probly wont even get anything but a mere fine for it. It's pathetic. You wanna talk suspension or press.. go with something that people arent used to these days. Its been talked about and athletes have been there and back. Its an old subject already. Find another topic to rag on him about and maybe then he'll get some press.. until then hes a good bball player and he made mistakes. Hes human so are you.. Vick is asking for forgiveness after what he did.. why cant you accept Giambi if thats the case?

There are many different factors involved in Giambis and Bonds issues. I'll try to simplfy it:
1 Giambi confessed and tested positive Bonds never did.
2 Giambi was named by former steroid users. The only person that can testify against Bonds is in jail and is not snitching on bonds. His childhood friend and personal trainer.
3 Bonds is only guilty in the court of public opinion. He never tested positive nor has any reliable sources come forward againts Bonds. Everyone who has spoke against Bonds has had a monatary motive.
4 Giambi has not broken any big records. By Bonds breaking the HR record he got all the heat and bad press.

1. He took steroids during a time when there were no rules against steroids in baseball. So he was breaking any rules. How can you be guilty of something when there are no rules against it?

2. He is being a man and admitting that he did steroids. Something that McGuire, Sosa and Bonds won't do.

3. He cooperated with federal investigators and league officials in their investigations.

4. He plays for the Yankees.
-------
To answer the main question, why isn't he suspended?
When he took steroids, there was no testing. Now that there is testing, he has not failed. So he is not currently taking steroids.

You can't penalize somebody retroactively. If that were the case, should we take Ed Walsh out of the Hall of Fame? He has the record for lowest career ERA, but he threw a spitball, which was banned 3 years AFTER he retired.

Hundreds of players took steroids. Only a handful have been honest about it.

At this point, I think it is important that we learn as much as posible about the extent of steroid use so we can evaluate the whole era. Giambi cooperated with the investigation. If he were punished NOBODY else would come forward and cooperate.

You don't have to like it. Just like you don't have to like when a Mafia hitman is let go because he cut a deal with investigators. But that's the way it is.

Because no one can bear to stay angry at someone who so much resembles a Mr. Potatohead doll.

....

Okay, more seriously, I think it's BECAUSE he owned up to it that he has been getting less flak. The issue is that at this point in time, everyone knows Bonds and Giambi are both guilty of using, except Giambi at least has tried to be straight about it.

On the other hand though, he probably should be getting more heat than he is, and I would be perfectly fine with him and Bonds getting little stars next to their stats in the record books.

he was granted leniancy for cooperating with the steiroid investigation. and remember he USED stairoids but isnt currently or even recently USING them. that and hes not getting as much "heat" as bonds because he isnt even close to breaking the all time home run record. because of that, bonds was put under the microscope. if giambi was in bonds' shoes, he'd be getting the same heat. wait till arod gets close to bonds' record. trust me, the "roid talk" will start up very quickly. even though he's NEVER even been mentioned in the steiroid race.

Because unlike that coward scum bag Bonds, Giambi stood up and admitted his steroid use. Bonds let's other people do his jail time for him. What kind of "man" would let that happen?

They can't suppend him without a positive test. The Union is too strong and would fight any suspension that MLB tried to give him and they would win that case. It has nothing to do with his charity work and all the bs Selig said, its the simple fact that he knows that he has no grounds to suspend him here. There was no rule then and the rule currently in place doesn't allow for any suspensions without a positive drug test. As much as it sucks for the everyday fan MLB can't touch him...
