Well since the Angels have already won two games, they have beaten the Mariners in the series. As for the playoffs, if the Mariners are the wild card, they will have to play the team with the best record in the ALDS, presumably the Red Sox. If the Mariners were to beat the Red Sox and the Angels beat the winner of the Central, look for the Angels dominance 10-4 so far in the regular season, to carry through in the ALCS. Lackey, Escobar, Jered Weaver and the unsung Saunders would effectively stifle the Mariners, possibly in four games. Tonight's embarrassing little whomping after being down 5-0 tells the whole story. And no, the Mariners will not be facing Ervin Santana in the playoffs. Look for him to pitch for Washington, Tampa Bay or Kansas City if he is lucky, Salt Lake if he's not

Only three reasons? Really? Reaaaallly? Well, this will have to be a top three then:

1. Better rotation - Lackey + Escobar = 2 wins, and they have the better Weaver. Felix is solid, but the rest of the rotation is shakey. Seattle will get torched in a short series.

2. Deeper, better bullpen - Putz is great, but nothing much behind him. Pity they traded Soriano away for nothing... So huge holes in the middle relief, while LAA has the best middle relief in the game over the last half decade.

3. Vlad Guerrero - The best hacker in baseball and finally heating up. When you can go deep on a pitch that BOUNCED on its way to the plate (as he did against Schilling), that deserves a special category. No offense to Ichiro, who is one of my favorite players to watch, but Vlad is almost as good as any two Seattle hitters combined.

Honorable Mentions for Angels Advantage:
- Prior postseason experience
- Have not been swept in a 4 game series by Texas this year..
- Rotation does NOT include Horacio Ramirez
- Less injuries
- Better farm system (in case of injuries)

The biggest factor is still the starting pitchers. I cannot stress enough how big the difference is for the #2 starter on the Angels (Escobar) versus #2 in Seattle (Washburn). In a best of 5 series, that is practically 1/3 of the way there. Being able to yank a struggling/inconsistent starter (see Jeff Weaver) is a great luxury too- and one you only get with great middle relief.

Pitching, Pitching, Pitching.....

The Mariners will continue to just miss the playoffs until the fire their GM......he doesn't believe Pitching wins pennants....

He will go and break the bank trying to get Ken Griffey back, and not QUALITY pitching......
