many. I am 48 years old and have been through lots of dogs since the age of 6. I also been through a few parakeets. But my most memorable and painful loss is just from two years ago right on thankgiving night. I dont celebrate holidays, in fact I hate christmas, easter, thanksgiving all of it because it is too painful but for some reason I found myself accepting an invitation from a friend to come over to her house on that thanksgiving and despite my better judgement something made me accept; a mistake I will blame myself for the rest of my life. While I was gone over this friends house my house burned down and I lost my two babies (my dog and my cat) in the process. It appears that my neighbor also went out that day and left a kerosene heater running while he was gone which somehow got knocked over and started the fire. It spread to my house and also touched a gas line so their was an explosion. His house burned down as well along with damage to 3 other homes.

I miss my two babies very much and as I said I will always blame myself for leaving them that day because had I stayed at home where my responsibilities were I may have been able to save them. i only hope that they didnt burn alive, that the smoke got to them first and they died sleeping and without pain. that is the only hope that keeps me going. I now have a new home given to me free and three new cats, one is around 7 years old, one 2 years old and the other one just turned a year old in May. Their names are Zoey, Sassy and Lucy. No, they cant take the other twos place but they help fill the space. I had Lucy since she was a wee little kitten of only 8 wks old and the other two were given to me by a co worker who said cats werent for her. They were abused and are only now beginning to trust people to an extent. I think they needed me as much as I needed them.

I have had quite a few pets throughout my life that have come and gone. The most recent pets we had were two small dogs named Chloe and Max. We moved to a new house last year and my hubby thought he had checked the yard and was safe. But a few days later, we found them dead in the backyard. They had eaten rat pallets that the previous owner had scattered in the yard!

A 3 foot long iguana named Phoebe.
it was a double passing, she was hanging out in my room and scared the life out of my cockatiel whose name was Porky. Porky had a heart attack and died because Phoebe was sitting on top of her cage, and Phoebe stuck her head through an opening in the bird cage trying to sample the bird seed and got her head stuck and suffocated.
Talk about a bad day coming home from school.

An old grey cat that I had for 14 years, passed of old age. And a mixed breed dog that had green eyes and a red nose--first dog I ever saw with that coloring--who loved my baby daughter with her whole heart. Sadly, she developed heartworms before they had medicine to prevent it and passed away from them.

Yep. I had a little puppy, and when she was 4 and a half she got kidney failure. She passed away on June 17, 2003, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about her.

A gold fish, lived for 5 years. It wasn't even suppose to be for a pet its those little fishies to feed other fishies. Darn that sucked , I even gave him a funeral, and planted flower on top of him.
