I am 24 years old is it to late to go to college even though I have kids, I look at my sisters and cousins who are in college and having a good life, and sit and wonder did I make a mistake by having kids first before I finished college. I want to be happy just like my sisters and cousins and go to college. Should I forget about going to college now since I have children or should I still persue my dreams?

Pursue the dream of college. It is never too late to go. Many people have had children and still went to college and worked too. No one said it was easy, but I think you should try your best and do it. I went to college at 44 years old and the younger ones looked up to me. I also received a scholarship and kept a 3.5 GPA. I did this after an awful divorce too. It comes down to what you really want and how badly you want it. Knowledge is power and never a waste of time. Good luck and give it some deep thought. I know with children......it is even more difficult..but you can do it! I know it! Best of luck in your endeavors.
Oh by the way, going to college because your sisters and cousins went is not a good reason to go. That won't make you happy if you are doing this because you feel left out or not "as smart". Children aren't a mistake. Even if you start out with a couple of classes...in a long run the key is your happiness and not someone else's. Make your dream come true...not someone else's. Go to college because you want to learn and hopefully better yourself in the work force. It is a great accomplishment no matter what job you get out of it or don't get out of it. Your children will be proud of you and you will set a good example for them. Now that's something to pat yourself on the back for! Keep up the learning process. It is a lifetime thing that will always benefit you.

You are absolutely not too old. The only limitation might be who would be taking care of your kids while you are in school. Know, though, that your college experience will be, or at least should be, a little different than it would be if you didn't have children. Your reason to go to college now should not be so that you can pursue your dreams or that you can be happy, but that you can give your children a better life and that you can set a good example for your kids. In the long run, that means that you will benefit as well, but when you talk about being happy and having a good life, I worry that you may be thinking about college partying rather than a college education.

It's never too late to go to college! I attended my sister's best friend's graduation...the oldest person to graduate in her class was 70+ years old. There are no age restrictions on obtaining a higher education. I'm 25 years old and have been taking classes off and on for the past few years. I won't be graduating anytime soon... By the time I graduate, I'll probably be near 30 years old.

Everyone travels a different path in their lives. You just happened to travel the path that lead you to your children first..there is nothing wrong with that. Obtaining a degree while taking care of your family will give you that much more pride in your accomplishments. Plus, your children will see that their mother pursued her dreams and realize that anything is possible with a little bit of work!

I know that it's hard to go to college when you have little ones to look after...but, honestly, if you want to go to college, then go! Pursue your dreams! You only live once! [But, don't use your children as an excuse to hinder you from pursuing your dreams because in the end, you're only lying to yourself...]

I'd suggest trying a vocational school or a community college first..and seeing how you like that.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do! :)

Of COURSE you shouldn't forget about college! I'm almost 23 and just starting college. Go to a community college (unless you want to go to vocational school, of course, to be a medical assistant or nurse, etc.). Here in LA, it's only $20 per unit. You need 60 units to graduate with an associate's degree. So imagine how inexpensive that is.. plus they have financial aid, grants, etc. Anywho, there are also a ton of online classes that you can take through community college. They're the same as the regular classes, and cost the same, but are easier in terms of balancing your schedule. You can also take online classes at other community colleges a lot of the time. Also, there are a lot of classes that are just ONE day per week. You literally go less than 20 times to class.. perhaps 15 - 17 times, and you're DONE with 3 units right there. You don't have to necessarily go full time (12 units) or go only in the mornings.. they have classes all day. Don't forget that you'll be making a better future for your kids, as well as yourself, and also setting a good example for them. Never give up on your dreams, girl. It's honestly not THAT hard to go to college. Yes, if you go full time and you're a full time mom, it might be a bit harder. But taking just 9 units a semester is perfect.. you'll be done in a good amount of time, and you can always take 12 units if you wish. Good luck, and definitely pursue your goals. :o)

Are you kidding me??? You made the MISTAKE of having a child??? Wow. I certainly don't look at parenthood like that. But to answer your question, NO. It is never too late to go to school. You may not be able to go full-time, as you are now responsible for a life other than your own. Or maybe you could swing it...I don't know your story, finances, living arrangements, etc. If you know what you want to go for, is there an entry-level job in that field? Some employers pay for their employees education, plus you are getting valuable experience from the ground up. Or you could apply for financial aid and take out student loans to help you out...just be careful of taking out more than you need.

You may see your cousins and sisters having a good life, but you have a child. You can't take it back. You can move forward, excepting your responsibility and enjoying parenthood as the wonderful experience it can be. (even though there are rough days in the mix, I feel it more than makes up for it in the smiles and giggles of our kids)

No don't forget about ever furthering your education!! Take one course at the time when you have free time depending on your schedule. Online courses are also available. I went back to high school when I was 23 to graduate and our valedictorian was 74 years old....that just proves it is never too late.

How can you teach your children to dream if you don't follow your dreams yourself?
