I will only see it in pictures, because I won't be able to afford it.
It will cost more for the average american to go to Macau then to Vegas.
With the cost of the hotel, flight and gambling, and other expenses, I'll spend more just to get to the casino then I will spending gambling for 4 days and 3 nights in Vegas.

The problem with Macau is that the people opening casinos there are the same guys who own casinos in vegas.
This new casino is owned by Sheldon Adelson who owns the Venetian in las vegas (the new casino is just basically a copy of his las vegas effort). Ditto Steve Wynn and Kirk Kerkorian who have built copies of their las vegas casinos in Macau.
Vegas is the mecca, everyone said Atlantic city and those giant Indian casinos would kill las vegas but they haven't. Competition from Macau will only serve to make las vegas stronger imo.
Just look at the projects being built in on the strip at the moment and all due to open by 2010:
1.$8.5 billion City Center
2.$3 billion Cosmopolitian
3.$6 billion Plaza las vegas
4.$5 billion Echelon
5.$3.5 billion Fountainebleau
6.$2.5 billion Encore
7.$2 billion Palazzo
In addition the 2,000 foot Crown Las vegas is likely, Mgm are at present drawing up plans to build Atlantis, Caesars Palace are expanding again with another tower, downtown is at last coming alive with a ton of projects in the works.
Las Vegas is far from finished yet

There is a possibility that Macau might steal business from Las Vegas according to the news. It is the fastest growing casino city in the world and has surpassed Vegas. However, LV is still much closer and cheaper to travel to than Macau. Although Macau is beautiful, so is Vegas, which is still expanding to meet demand. I do plan on visiting Macau too see what all the hoopla is about, Stay tuned.

I won't go, Vegas for me is fairly cheap and easy to get to. Will it hurt Vegas, it could because a large part of Vegas' market is the Asian client.
As to spending more money at the tables than at Vegas is probably true. Las Vegas casinos are moving to smaller table sections and more slot machines and machine type table games. They don't require days off, no salary, benefits, and they don't complain.
Good question

I go to Las Vegas for the magic shows, not the gambling so Macau has nothing to do with me. As for gambling, Las Vegas is popular because it is so close to Los Angeles. Macau is a lot farther to go.

No it is an expanding market. It is an interesting town. But no place on earth can compare to Las Vegas and its attractions.

I'm sorry, but I'd rather go to good old American Las Vegas any day over Communist China. Call me crazy.
