The government is there to carry out the will of the people not vent its will upon the people. Politicians these days seem to have forgotten this.
Bush, can drag his country into wars that his electrate simply have no stomach for, and Blair follows, just to make his mark on histrory, after all, his idol had the Falklands.
They take away dedicated smoking rooms, and do not give us the chance to make an educated choice of being able to enter a non-smoking pub or a smoking one, which would have been a far better solution. And yet they still allow you to smoke!
Why not ban it all together?
Because 80% of the price is tax!!!!
They seem insistant upon clearing the roads of congestion by pricing the poorer man off the road, with the constant barrage of taxes, fines, and charges.
They are now on this Environmentally Friendly band wagon and want to charge us AGAIN for taking our waste away, based on the weight of the bin. (Look our for the noisy nieghbour next door getting a few lead slates attached to the bottom of his)
They allow crime to go unanswered for so long, and then jump on one issue so hard that it becomes impossible to police it.
Education is currently pathetic to the level where I am actually considering going back to school for a couple of months refresher training, then sitting my A Levels again. The major qualifications have been dumbed further and further down, with downright stupid degrees that are good for absolutely nothing in the real world. Employers are now beginning to see this. So maybe getting a few A Levels in traditional subjects will enhance job prospects.
And who is to blame for all this?
We are!
We are the people responsible for them taking away our common liberties. Was it not us who elected them to do so?
No, please USE your vote wisely at the next election, and allow these people to see what we truly think of them. Not voting can't possible be the answer.
The modern politicians are money grabbing oppurtunists, that want all the trimmings without shouldering any of the blame.
Canute makes a valid point about the PC Brigade depicting the Hetrosexual English White Male as a complete monster. This whilst we allow murderers from foriegn countries asylum here under the human rights act and then we get all wide eyed with shock and horror when they do something like kill a copper.
What a great country we live in. So great that upto 4000 applications to leave are being processed each week.

The idea of democracy is not a holy one and it does not necessarily work.
Thus a government which was democratically elected could abolish all liberties. See the rise of the Nazi party and the fall of the Weimar Republic.
All the PC etc infringes on the liberties of normally sexed white English males.

When the dead mummy risen from the graveyards with two hands stretching out creaking and rattling with skeleton of skull and bones blindly searching the way back to the graveyards were ruling and leading in guiding the survival and advacnement of living human kind with pots and pans out there without being aware of their own creation in own backyards?

Fear and apathy.
Liberty and freedom requires the population of a country to actively work to defend those freedoms -- defend them from their own govt, which is by nature antithetical to freedom.
When people are scared, they want the govt to protect them. When they are lazy, they don't care what the govt does. In both cases, this allows the govt to take more control of people's lives, which reduces freedom and liberty.
We only have those freedoms we choose to defend.

Because the Government has become a selfcentered fat cat that is making sure that no-one can stop its power. Just watch Brown now that he has taken over from B'liar.
