They buy the movie for a certain price and everything they make after that is profit. Even if you are the only person in there they are still making money off of the movie (not to mention the expensive pop and popcorn).

Look at it this way: You were there, and you paid your money. They already had the film, the hall (that had to be air-conditioned whether you were there or not), the employees, and so on. They have nothing to gain by NOT showing it, and if they get a few people in, then it's a few dollars more to offset the cost of running the business. It has to be run no matter how many people are there, so they might as well make a few bucks :-)

l was thinking the same thing everytime l go out to watch in theaters. l never had the experience of being alone but there was a time we were only about four inside. There was no one in the balcony area but me and the rest are in the lodge area.
Let's face it. There are real flop movies. They don't get to break-even what they spent for.

And that is really sad.
