Let me begin by saying that not only is Craig a republican and an staunch defender of family values, but he is also married. Why then are the democrats launching a partisan attack on him based on his sexuality, which should not matter as long as he upholds family values and common decency. Democrats claim to be for gay rights but are very intolerant if it's for someone who opposes higher taxes and a secure foreign policy, which Craig does.
Granted the alleged charges are false and Craig is not gay, why do Democrats attack him with absolutely NO EVIDENCE to back up their claim???

By the way, that guilty plea was just a mistake...he would have plead not guilty if he was in court today...so please don't use that argument.

According to the police report, Craig performed an entire ritual that includes peeking through the crack next to the stall door, placing his luggage so as to block people seeing that he was sliding his foot under the partition to fondle the foot of the man in the next stall (twice), tapping on the partition and then running his hand along the bottom of the partition palm upwards.
He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge hoping to get out and cover things up but the blotter became public.
I have no doubt that his behavior reflects mainstream Republican valuse as you sort of rant about. But why are the "Demoqueers" etc. you Bush-Davidians are always screaming about suddenly "homphobic", whatever that may be?
What partisan attacks? Republicans against the public? In restrooms? It's other Republicans calling for him to resign, the Democrats have been pretty silent on this one because the facts speak for themselves.
Yuck!

Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, expressed surprise that Sen. Larry Craig has been forced to
relinquish his committee assignments in light of this week's revelations that he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in connection with an attempted sexual encounter with an undercover officer in a Minneapolis airport restroom.
"Senator Ted Stevens maintains his position on the Appropriations Committee despite being the subject of a major criminal investigation, including an FBI raid on his Alaska home and Senator David Vitter maintains his assignments despite admitting to the crime of soliciting a prostitute."
Sloan noted that in response to CREW's calls for Sen. Stevens to step down from his position on the Senate Appropriations Committee where he has jurisdiction over the Department of Justice's budget, Senate Minority Leader Mitchell McConnell demurred, defending Sen. Stevens. Sloan continued, "A disorderly conduct plea requires a member to give up his committee assignment, but a full-fledged bribery investigation does not. Apparently, in the view of the Republican conference there is almost nothing more serious than a member attempting to engage in gay sex."
"For consistency's sake, Senators Stevens and Vitter should both be forced to give up their committee assignments as well."

Obviously Craig plead guilty just to get the whole ugly mess behind him. He's an upstanding guy who loves his family and has values that make him electable. The poor guy was in the can, minding his own business and got entrapped by an over zealous undercover officer. A victim of circumstance. NBC does it all the time on their "To Catch A Predator" show.
The guy has already come out publicly and stated he's not gay. Leave him alone already! Why would lie about that?

who cares if he is gay or straight? He is from the conservative party, that is what he is supposed to be representing in his behavior to the people that voted for him, beleive in him : couldn't he have done his sexual business at home? No matter which way repubs try to spin this (ex: you're putting it on the democrats) - what the man did was wrong b/c he was in a public place doing so. Unless the guy he was sucking off was a democrat (or whatever they were doing sexually) -- you really should stick to what the senator did wrong instead of trying to bring in topics that have nothing to do w/ why he was arrested in the first place.....Period.

Being married has nothing to do with being gay -- there are tens of thousands of cases of people who were married later coming out of the closet.
The allegations against Craig were based on the crime that he plead guilty to -- and based on his own vociferous denial that he was gay ("methinks he doth protest too much" being the idea).
As for your claim that Democrats are homophobes -- that's laughable. It's not being a homophobe to point out when you think someone else is being hypocritical.
As far as "common decency" -- he plead guilty to a crime involving indecent conduct. So, as a matter of law, he's already said he didn't act with common decency.

i would think a senator of all people would understand what guilty means. (HINT: guilty plea not no contest) what good is it to vote for family values if you don't hold your self to them
lets take the sex scandal out of this. a senator votes to lower legal blood alcohol limit and then pleads guilty to a DUI. the other party would jump on this senator because he did not abide by the values he votes by.
a senator writes and read laws i am positive he knows the difference between guilty and no contest

Actually, Senator Craig pleaded guilty to the charges in a Minnesota court room. While he is trying to say now that he made a mistake, you need to read the actual police reports of what he was doing.
This matter was brought to the forefront, not by Democrats, but by gay rights activists who are tired of secretly homosexual politicians pushing anti-gay legislation.

The way I have been reading it, it is his own party which has been attacking him.
Posted from the news...
"Craig, a third-term senator from Idaho, proclaimed his innocence as well as his sexuality less than an hour after Senate leaders from his own Republican Party called for an ethics committee review of his case."

You know... I could care less what he does in his private life, with a consenting adult. What bothers me:
"Craig has been criticized for opposing legislation on gay rights. He’s voted against same-sex marriage and spoken out against homosexuals serving in the military."
There's hypocrisy in both parties and I really wish both parties would kick their hypocrites to the curb! Hypocrites and lack of integrity give their respective parties a bad reputation. I'm sick of 'do as I say, not as I do" politics!
