My wife was watching Beauty and the Geek, when I jokingly brought up that it would be funny if they did the same show but with gender roles reversed (good looking but somewhat airheaded guys paired up with socially awkward women).
She thought it would work, I think there would be problems; I think the guys would just hound the women and it wouldn't provide the moments of anxious awkwardness that makes this show popular. My opinion is that in society its usually the guys role (whether right or wrong) to be dominant and go after the woman, thats why nervous guys and good looking women is an interesting mix. But lemme know what yall think, agree with me or with her?

I would write the show and tell them that idea. I think it would be great.

I totally agree with you. It would never work. The handsome fellas that do reality shows are waaaay too superficial. A long time ago there was a reality dating show called Average Joe where dorky guys would compete against each other to win the hand of a beautiful woman. Then the twist was that partway through the competition some good looking guys would be added to the contest. The producers were going to do a spin-off called Average Jill but they had a lot of trouble casting the main guy. The good-looking guys that auditioned didn't want to have to select from less-than-beautiful women - even if they were brilliant, had a heart of gold, etc. One of the losers from Average Joe did get a spin-off. He got to be the main "bachelor" and pick between average girls and beautiful ones. Of course he selected a beautiful one. The only way I think it could work is if the geeky women actually turn out to be very attractive after they get a makeover. Sad but true.

I suppose I could see it going either way.

My first thought was that it would never work...but then you have to look at it from the angle that it is a competition for prize money, not a dating show. I believe if it were a dating show, it wouldn't work. Even on average Joe the women were unaware that the men competing for her would be "average joe's" and their first looks were always that of complete shock/disappointment...until later when the "attractive men" showed up.

Because it's not a dating show and it is prize based, I think it may work... BUT, when put together and away from the women, I think the men could be very harsh (much like when Average Joe's woman would dress in a fat suit.. and you later saw the men's reactions) and that could later be damaging to the women after the seeing the show aired.

i haven't watched the show but it bothered me that while it's ok for the geek MALE to get the hot lady it's not ok for the 'plain jane' (ugly betty) type to get the h ot guy--time for us non como nonsize 0 ladies to get the guy!---look at the sitcoms- the lovable chubby guy with the good looking young wife--time to reverse that!

No way. Guys are way too shallow to compete for the attention of nerdy girls. Guys are visually stimulated and need hot girls to look at.
