actually a lot of them want to do something with their lives so more and more blacks are in college which is great...We have scholorships, benefits, grants for people in general to go to college for free. The governmet even will pay for college if you have proof that you are Native American Indian or Mexican decent. So America is pushing teens to go to college.

To be honest I am not surprised by this article. A lot of black men and women have a victim mentality generally passed down from generation to generation. It takes a tremendous amount of self assuredness to overcome this type of mentality. The result of this thinking is genreally like the thinking for those who do not vote, " It's not going to make a difference so why bother?" This attitude is developed very early on 'grade school age' and therefore affects their ability to learn or should I say willingness. Being that most of their adult figures at home have a similar attitude and/or lack of education, education does not become priority and is genrally not emphasized as any thing other than something that has to be done becasue all children according to law should attend school. Add to that peer pressure from equally frustrated peer with accusations of 'wanting/acting white' or 'being a nerd', and it becomes accceptable to not care because "I will get by as everyone else does." Well when everyone else in our immediate surroundings is getting by by engaging in criminal activity the you fall into suit. Much like the immigrant americans developing their own little niche in American communities, where they speak thier own languages and cook and sell their types of food. This however is changing as more and more blacks realize that they can get a lot further with education than not and they are taking an interest in education and college. They are dealing with coming back to their communities (or maybe not), and being labeled a sell out and they are paving a new way for themselves. So while there may be more blacks in jail than college, I believe there will be increasing blacks who do attend college and maybe those numbers will even out over time. I don't think it says anymore about America than has already been said, I think the problem is more in our communities amongst the blacks themselves.

The main reason is because of their effort is spent more towards getting money for drugs so they can stay on a level with there piers . I feel that if they would take more pride in there self and strive to become a better citizen in stead of a person that has no respect or thought of improving there community and trying to have a education where they would have the ability to improve there community that then and only then would be when you would see these numbers change it is not that the government has let them down it is there on doing that has caused this citation

Why does it matter about the color of the people in jail, people are people and if they are black and in jail then they deserve if and if they are white and in jail they deserve it too. I get so tired of people complaining oh i'm in jail because I'm black.. sorry but i think thats just stupid. What is says about america.. it says nothing about america!

yeah that report is wrong, and statistically speaking there is a higher chance of a black person going to jail than a white person but that doesn't mean there are more blacks in jail than college. People don't go to jail for being black or white or whatever they go to jail for commiting crimes.
Hear are some facts to support my answer:

• Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.

• When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.

• Hispanics commit violent crimes at roughly three times the white rate, and Asians commit violent crimes at about one quarter the white rate.

You can find enough evidence to back up any statistic you create.

For example: Anchorman
"They've done studies you know. They say that 60% of the time, it works... everytime!"

It's all how you twist the info. I don't honestly believe there are more blacks in jail than college.

That line is a race baiting urban myth.

Even if it were true in America you are free to determine your own path in life.

So what that says about America is that we are free to make our own decisions and we are free to engage in playing the race card.

Unfortuntely, most black men are ignorant and they do not focus on being succesful, instead they are out there doing crime. It is so sad and I am so disappointed in some of these black men that does not even make an effort to be succesful.

Blacks can't get into college except if they are doing time! Sad, isn't it?

I bet all those who scream about quotas really do not care about the quotas in prison!
