yesturday a somalian man raped a woman in the hallway of his apartment building in the u. s first of all HOW the hell can these people call tehmselves americans in this building they did absoulutly nothing this was a woman who was raped infront of as much as 32 by standers he tehn blamed it on his background i want to know y we use this excuses as a way out same as the man who abused his wife in teh anme of islam like have woman become nothin but items to these men and most of all what have we as americans become when we can watch this?

It is not a new problem. For you it may be a racial issue, but I never heard the case you talked about. You mentioned the African country of Somalia but didn't seek more info about it. Civil war in Somalia and throughout Africa puts machine guns in the hands of 10 year olds there and the violence is like nothing we have seen in the US. During their civil wars, rape is not a personal crime but a political action. These kinds of civil war have gone on for decades in Africa but no one bothers to render help because the countries with larger oil fields are in the Middle East. And yes the U.N. and Human Rights Watch groups are watching. Just across the Arabian Sea from Saudi Arabia but seen as less poor so less deserving of assistance. From the posting to the CBS article from prior post, the man from Somali is being considered as if he is an American black. The culture of Africans from Africa and the average African American are not alike. I bet the reaction would be I don't care if the victim was a black woman rather than white.

A woman in 1950's NY city was killed brutally and no one in 2 entire apartment buildings who heard her scream even called the police. In that case victim, killer and all witnesses were white.

Apathy knows no boundaries. Race, politics, proximity make little difference.

Unfortunately crap like that happens ALL over the world.

In china women are raped standing up on the train. Women are raped in the hallways in a lot of buildings. As for anyone LETTING it happen, what are they to do? They can call 911 that true, they can risk death by intervening.

Look at the way people are in the world. Only a few people will step forward to intervene. A lot of the times people pretend nothing is happening. They however have their own motivations for not doing anything.

It is sad to be sure, but that is the way it is ALL over the world.

Americans are just human beings. Like all other human beings we make grave mistakes. Don't think we are something special, because that is the way you would like us to be.
Make sure that you help if you see a crime, abuse or an accident. I truely hope you will not only help, because you think some nationalities deserve it and others don't.

Yeah, it sucks. Has nothing to do with Race or Religion though, so don't make it sound like it did. People just don't want to get involved.
