The telephone was developed originally in the 1870s in two places simultaneously. You may have heard of Alexander Graham Bell, but there was a female called Elisha Gray who is also credited with the invention. (conspiracy theorist say Bell was credited solely because he was a man).

The atomic bomb was theorised by a group of scientists who petitioned Albert Einstein (as the most recognisable scientist of his day) to approach the American president. Einstein sent a letter to President Roosevent on August 2nd. 1939 and this served as the inspiration for the Manhattan project. The atomic bomb came into existence after this date.

The Manhattan project was developed due to political beliefs that the atomic bomb would be better in the hands of a free country. There was also considered reaction to news from immigrant (escaping) scientists that Germany was attempting to develop materials for a Nazi 'super-weapon': their own atomic bomb.
