Some of the major concerns are:
Solvency of the Social Security system.
The mess in Iraq.
Infrastructure repairs.
Completing homeland security recommendations.
Rising energy costs.
Urban gang violence.
Poverty with concurrent education failure and crime.
Competition from India & China.
Military hardware replacement.
Returning veterans care.
Health care costs.
The debt of almost $9 trillion, and the continuing budget deficits will make it very difficult to solve our major problems.
We've cut the government's income significantly by reducing high income and estate taxes; borrowed the money to fund our expenses & the war. This years interest is $345 billion; in 5 years it rises to $447 billion. That's $1490 for every man, woman, & child in America per year. That's interest only; it buys us nothing.
We accomplish nothing in the long term unless we run surpluses. Clinton's was 2.4% of GDP; Bush's -1.8% of GDP.
And none of this will be fixed unless we seriously restrict lobbyist influence through serious campaign finance reform.

The economy. I feel that with mismanagement, our economy could potentially fall like a house of cards. With our deficit spending, we are going to spend ourselves into ruin. Essentially, we are borrowing money from people that don't like us. (China, Russia, etc) They will give us enough rope to hang ourselves and then that will be it. All of the other problems we may have (education, health care, etc) will seem like a walk in the park if our economy collapses. Everyone is dumping their wealth into the Euro. That isn't cool. That will devalue the dollar along with our mismanaged taxes. If the economy collapses, well, so will everything else.

Bush's war in Iraq, failing to clean up the Katrina mess, failing school systems, tax shelters for the rich, the ridiculous price of gas, and dwindling funds for housing and caring for the poor and the elderly. All the money is going to support Bush's buddies who control Halliburton who are profiting by the damned war!

American voters feeling a lack of importance and participation in their system of government and Americans being too comfortable with idiots in leadership roles. They require more from their Happy Meals than they do of themselves when it comes to being involved in their kids futures when it comes to political involvement and it's more than they require from their elected leaders.
I think alot of this would change if we forced corporations, who don't even vote, to stop funding our elections and if we the people started paying for our own elections and our own government. Until then, the corporations get what THEY pay for and we sit on the side lines with the illusion that it is still our government that we elected. When in fact the candidates were chosen for us long before they even get to the primaries.
